MLB Injury News:
Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and center fielder Dexter Fowler both began rehabilitation assignments Monday night with the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox, according to Irv Moss of the Denver Post.
Tulowitzki is recovering from a broken rib on his right side and Fowler from a bruise in his right wrist.
Fowler believes he'll be ready to join the Rockies on Thursday in Los Angeles. Tulowitzki said he doesn't have a specific timetable on his return.
Neither is pain-free, but the soreness for each had eased to the point where they could play and tolerate the discomfort.
Tulowitzki hit a single to center in his first at-bat. He came around to score the Sky Sox's first run. He flew out to right field in the third inning. During the at-bat, he reached for his right side on a hard swing that resulted in a foul ball. He played three innings.
Fowler grounded out in his first two at-bats — one to short and a hard-hit ball down the first-base line. He drew a walk in his third at-bat and was called out on strikes in his fourth time up. He left the game after the sixth inning.
Tulowitzki confirmed that his priority is helping the Rockies. He'll have to play at least a game for the Rockies this weekend before he would consent to playing in next Tuesday's All-Star Game in New York.
However, because he was voted into the game by the fans, he'll take part in the All-Star activities, regardless of whether he plays in the game.
Fowler also said he expects the Rockies to play much better in the second half.
"We haven't had our run yet," Fowler said. "We were dominating early in the season. When we get everybody (healthy and) playing again, that's the kind of team we can be."
Fowler is hitting .291 with 10 homers and 26 RBI's while Tulo is a little more missed with an outstanding .347 BA, 16 bombs and 51 knocked in.
