Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay threw a rehab start on Thursday night in Single A Clearwater. He pitched 3 innings, gave up two hits and an unearned run. Yesterday, Halladay threw another bullpen session and more importantly was cleared to come off of the disabled list.

Halladay will make his first start on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It’s good news for the Phillies who get their ace back, but at 14 games back of the division lead, you wonder if it’s not too late. Halladay has been sidelined since May 27th when he was removed in the second inning because of strained latissimus dorsi muscle.

Halladay started the season well but fell into an extended period of ineffectiveness. He uncharacteristically gave up a six run lead and seemed to lack the movement and velocity on his pitches that have made him one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball.

Without Halladay, the Phillies fell into a huge hole in the NL East and are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in 6 seasons.
