It’s becoming less and less likely that the Mets will trade left handed starter Jonathon Niese this offseason. At first the rumor was that they were just looking for a “placeholder pitcher” and another prospect, then supposed demands got a little more expensive and the latest is that they would have to be “knocked out” in order to deal Niese, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.
The Yankees, who rarely make trades with the Mets, apparently called their cross-town rivals once they heard Niese was on the market. The thinking was that he has strong peripherals and was perhaps the victim of the poor Mets defense and that he might come cheaper than say Gio Gonzalez as a result. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
It’s hard to gauge the Yankees level of interest since talks seemed to have gone nowhere, but they have been very reluctant to deal any of their top prospects in a deal. It is tough to imagine they would part with their best p...

Should the New York Mets Trade Jonathon Niese?
As the trade winds continue to blow this December, an interesting name has been added to the mix for teams looking for a starting pitcher: Jonathon Niese of the New York Mets. The 25 year old Niese has been one of the Mets' most effective starter over the past two seasons, ranking second on the staff with both 4.5 fWAR and a 3.75 FIP. The Mets are hesitant to trade him, and are...
Why are the Mets looking to trade Jon Niese?
Over the last couple of weeks, a lot of people have asked me both here and on Twitter why the Mets might be looking to trade Jon Niese; a young, inexpensive, high-ceiling left-handed pitcher who is under team control for another four years, especially with so much uncertainty in the rotation over the short-term?
I understand the point, but isn’t Niese a part of that uncertainty...
New York Mets Waiting to Be “Knocked Out” By Trade Offers
The latest New York Met to find himself entangled in trade rumors has been LHP Jonathon Niese. The New York Mets are apparently not willing to deal him unless they are “knocked out” by a trade proposal. I think this stance is perfectly appropriate for the New York Mets. Jonathon Niese is not a stud or a future front-line starter, but he’s solid and has already...
Jon Niese “is believed to be available” in a package for Seth Smith
In a post to Fox Sports, Tracy Ringolsby writes that New York Mets starter Jonathan Niese “is believed to be available” in a package built around Colorado Rockies outfielder Seth Smith. According to Ringolsby, the signing of former Twins outfielder Michael Cuddyer allows Colorado to shop Smith:

Niese for Smith rumors...
According to Tracy Ringolsby the Mets are interested in a trade in which the principle pieces are Jon Niese and Seth Smith. The 25 y/o left hander cost the Mets 425k last season for 26 starts with a 4.40 ERA / 1.41 WHIP. The Mets will have Niese under control for four more years at a reasonable cost in which is rare for a quality starter in the majors. Of course, his career ERA...
Can We Please Stop Reporting That Sandy Alderson Is Shopping Jon Niese?
Sometimes it just boggles my mind how some bloggers can’t seem to differentiate between a writer’s speculation or a legitimate rumor. Case in point are these recent Jon Niese to Colorado for Seth Smith rumors.
Before I tear into the heart of these outlandish attempts to fire up the fan base, let me begin with an actual rumor that nobody seemed to key in on.
This a legitimate...

IF JON NIESE IS TRADED OR STAYS IT’S STILL A PLUS FOR THE METS
For everyone who says “why would Sandy Alderson even think about trading Jon Niese”? You got your answer yesterday when the San Diego Padres traded Matt Latos to the Cincinnati Reds for a cache of prime prospects.
The Reds see 2012 as their shot at winning the NL Central and putting together a pitching rotation that would stand up to the post season test so they took the big...

This passt weekend, Jon Heyman said the Mets will not include Jon Niese, Ike Davis or any top prospects in a package to the A’s for Gio Gonzalez.

When Did I Become The “Elder?”
Today is the 25th anniversary of the last championship the Mets won. Today, the Mets blogosphere is saturated with stories of Game Seven, summaries, “What-Was-I-Doing-When…” stories, among others.
As Mets fans, we appreciate the history of this team, albeit quirky and riddled with more ennui than excitement. While I think we tend to romanticize the “down years” a little...
