Say goodbye to May, and to boring articles about things like on-field performance, it's now time for every writer in America to start announcing trade rumors and coming up with their own potential trades. Luckily, thanks to a split with the Dodgers, things remain relatively quiet on the North Side front...
  • As a lid-lifter, Fred Mitchell of the Trib says that the Cubs may not be able to make any moves this summer because the deal between the Tribune and Tom Ricketts continues to be held up. If you are looking for the blurb about it in the article, you have to scroll down past the picture of the ghost who threw out the first pitch on Saturday.

  • In the post-game wrapup from Saturday, Fox's Ken Rosenthal reiterates the ownership issue is problematic, but goes as far as saying the Padres will need to move Peavy to rid themselves of his salary.

  • SI's Jon Heyman keeps hearing that the Cubs may be the only team to land Jake Peavy, because they may be the only team Peavy is willing to go to. If that's true, my excitement meter in this story may move a little bit, because it could put the Cubs in an advantageous position. If Peavy is only willing to go to the Cubs and the Padres want to get rid of his contract (as Rosenthal states), it may not take as much as it did over the winter. But as I've said before, starting pitching is not the Cubs problem.

  • Heyman also added that Bob Costas thinks the Cubs may try to re-acquire Mark DeRosa. Didn't know Costas was inside the wire, but OK. This one is interesting simply for the fact that a) would the Cubs have to give up more than they acquired originally for DeRosa (answer is probably yes) and b) how would DeRo receive the news...he loves Chicago, but can't be a big fan of JH.
