Struggling right-hander Ervin Santana will remain in the rotation for at least one more start, against Tampa Bay on Friday night, but with a limit of 15 outs, said Angels Manager Mike Scioscia. Of course, the way Santana has been pitching -- hes 4-10 with a 6.00 earned-run average and 23 homers given up after he was rocked for six runs and eight hits in 1 23 innings of Saturdays loss to the Rangers -- the Angels would be elated to get 15 outs from him. We want him to concentrate on getting into a flow of the game and going hard and go from there, Scioscia said. A number of guys have responded positively to this over the years. Hopefully, hes not worried about facing a lot of these hitters for the fourth time in a game and can throw more at them early. Scioscia said he has used similar tactics with pitchers such as Scott Kazmir and Aaron Sele, whose Angels careers did not end well. Its a tool to get them to where theyre not saving anything for later in the game, Scioscia said. We...

Ron Washington: Comparing Mike Trout to Willie Mays has to stop

Angels rookie outfielder Mike Trout is an insanely good athlete. After spending much of the first month of the season in the minors, Trout has wasted no time figuring out how to wear out Major League pitching and make an impact on the game. In 74 games, Trout is leading the American League with a .357 average, 31 stolen bases, 70 runs scored and an on-base percentage of .412. He...

Jean Segura Gets ‘The Call’ from Angels

Los Angeles caught lightning in a bottle with the addition of rookie Mike Trout earlier this season. Now the team will look to do the same with the addition of Jean Segura. Back in November, I ranked the rookie as the club’s fourth-best prospect entering the this season. The middle infield prospect was promoted to the majors for the first time in his pro career after starting shortstop...

Aybar's injury meant a major league call-up for Segura

This is what it's like to be a top prospect with the trade deadline approaching: You're always looking over your shoulder. Infielder Jean Segura was 2-for-3 for the Los Angeles Angels' Class AA Arkansas affiliate Saturday night when he was pulled from the game early. "I was a little bit surprised," he said the next day. "When they took me out of the...

Long road back

SUGAR LAND Its easy to overlook incremental progress when stardom has already been achieved, when the wunderkind label fit snuggly before falling off somewhere along the decent into oblivion. The truth that appears to have been lost on most everyone else hasnt eluded Scott Kazmir. There is no shortcut back to the mountaintop, no magic elixir for one to consume that helps recapture...

Game Recap 7/22/12: Back in the saddle - Angels 7 , Rangers 4

Dan Haren is back, baby!  And the Angels have taken yet another series from Texas.  More exclamation points!!!! Better than that, Bobby Wilson went OFF!!!!  EVEN MORE EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With all due respect to Dan Haren, who pitched a fine game and gave the Angels a massive shot in the arm by giving them the hope of now having three reliable starters...

The Jerry Dipoto Trade Deadline Quote Drinking Game

In his first year as general manager of the Angels, Jerry Dipoto has proven to be aggressive and effective on the trade and free agency market.  He's also shown that he is an ever-smiling fountain of energy and positivity.  But underneath that facade, it turns out he is a cagey bastard who deftly uses his charm to give interview after interview of nothing but empty platitudes...

The Los Angeles Angels left-hander will try to do just that while helping his team continue its recent success at home Monday night. Wilson (9-6, 2.82 ERA) had a 1.74 ERA over his 10 starts before Wednesday's 7-2 loss...
