Brandon Moss has hit 10 homers in 24 games with the Oakland A's -- and he's in a platoon at first base. Moss, who was the AL Player of the Week last month after hitting five homers in a four-game span, is now sharing time with rookie Chris Carter -- at least through the All-Star break. The A's then must assess if they want a longtime top prospect such as Carter to remain a part-time player or if he should get regular at-bats with Class AAA Sacramento. Carter, a right-handed hitter, homered in each of his first two games with Oakland last week, and then Moss, a left-handed hitter, homered on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. The A's are not afraid to platoon at various spots. Besides first base, the DH role is shared between left-handed-hitting Seth Smith and righty Jonny Gomes (at least when Yoenis Cespedes isn't there to limit the pounding on his legs after he missed time with a hamstring strain). Rookie Derek Norris is starting three games each turn through t...

Griffin becomes latest superhuman pitcher in A's rotation

Even without veterans Bartolo Colon and Brandon McCarthy for stretches in the past month, the Oakland A's rotation has been just fine with a bunch of inexperienced arms. After a 3-2 victory over Boston on Wednesday, the A's have the best ERA in the league, at 3.43, and over the past 20 games, the team has allowed two runs or less 13 times, putting up an ERA of 2.35 in that...

Aaron Cook's Few Mistakes Aren't Missed by Athletics Hitters in Loss (Video)

My, how times have changed. Years ago, the Oakland Athletics were known as one of the most patient teams in baseball, almost to the point of frustration. Their hitters were known for waiting out pitchers, often times taking strikes to see more pitches and work free passes. It was a philosophy that was apparent from the big league team on down through the minors. Other teams, however...

A's slugger Reddick learns resiliency from dad

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By ANTONIO GONZALEZ AP Sports Writer Josh Reddick has had to overcome more than most to make it to the major leagues. Reddick learned how to play baseball from a father without hands, was cut by his middle school team - twice - and discarded by the Boston Red Sox last winter. The self-described country boy from southeast Georgia...

Athletics 4, Mariners 1(11)

Chris Carter hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning, powering the Oakland Athletics past the Seattle Mariners 4-1 on Friday night to match a season-high five-game winning streak. David Ortiz Hits Career Home Run No. 400 in Fourth Innning of July 4 Game Against Oakland A's

He did it. David Ortiz hit career home run No. 400 on Wednesday, tying the game against the Oakland A's. Ortiz turned on a fastball from starter A.J. Griffin and sent it screaming into the right field seats. That moves Ortiz into 49th place all-time, ahead of Andres Galarraga and Al Kaline, with Duke Snider next with 407.

Mariners-Athletics Preview

Oakland's Tommy Milone has been outstanding at home. If he can continue his dominant pitching there, he should have a good chance to get the surging Athletics back to .500 for the first time in six weeks. Milone and the A's open a three-game series Friday night against the Mariners, who should be very happy to temporarily leave the spacious dimensions of Safeco Field. Oakland...
