Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez says Ben Sheets will pitch Sunday against the New York Mets, his first major league start in almost two years. Sheets, the former Milwaukee Brewers ace, had a bullpen session Thursday. Gonzalez said the Braves will make a roster move before Sheets makes his first big league start since July 19, 2010. Atlanta signed Sheets to a minor league contract on July 1. He made two starts for Double-A Mississippi, going 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA in 10 2-3 innings. In eight seasons with Milwaukee and one with Oakland, Sheets is 90-92 with a 3.79 ERA in 241 career starts. Gonzalez hopes Sheets can go five innings Sunday, but will not let him surpass 80 pitches. Sheets has been on the disabled list seven times in his career.

2012 All Stars Announced: David Wright DIssed!

Today the 2012 All Stars were announced, and Mets 3rd baseman David Wright was absolutely screwed. Wright who is second in the NL in batting with a .354 average (as of this posting), second in doubles, third in hits, and seventh in fielding. Wright has had a story book first half, easily a first half MVP candidate, but to be snubbed by the fans as an All Star starter is obscene.  The Mets 3rd

Down On The Farm: July 1, 2012

As the calendar turns to July we shift our attention from the pitchers that we covered last weekend to the hitters this weekend. Remember when so many critics said the Mets have no prospects in the minor leagues? Well they may not have the best but they definitely have some solid pieces on the way.   Buffalo Bisons (41-42, 6 GB) -The Bisons are still within striking distance...

This is the Ike Davis Mets fans have been waiting to see

Ike Davis surged above the mendoza line on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, collecting two hits in four at-bats during the New York Mets 5-0 victory over the Dodgers: Davis collected his first hit of the contest, a lead-off double, in the top of the second inning before advancing to third on a Lucas Duda fly out to right.  One batter later, he scored the games first run on Daniel...

Post-Game: Mets Squander Chances Fall to LA

Dee Gordon turned out to be a thorn in the Mets’ side after giving the Mets the lead with two errors in the third inning. The New York Mets were unable to complete a four game sweep agains the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday Night as they fell by the score of 8-3. The Mets committed three errors in the game as the Los Angeles bats awoke from their week-long slumber just in time...

A bunch of stuff about Wright not being named to NL All-Star Starting Lineup

I never blogged about how ridiculous it is that David Wright didn’t get the starting gig for the All-Star Game. Let’s just say I’m extremely mad. I agree with what everyone is saying…  The game is supposed to mean something. Home field advantage for the league that wins for the World Series—-that means something. The best players in the league should start, not the player...

Mets in the market for an ace like Cole Hamels or Zack Greinke?

The Mets are 42-36 as the All Star break draws nearer.  It’s become clear that they will be in the market for one or more relievers, with their eyes on a closer who might be more effective than the hit-or-miss Frank Francisco.  They also need to be a little worried about the rotation as pitchers like Gee and Young cannot be counted on long-term and Johan’s arm is not going...

The Worst Contract in Baseball Is???????

I have been trying to figure out which of the $100 million contracts is the worst in baseball.  I believe that I have figured it out.  I know there will be disagreement and I know some may argue.  However, I believe I have my answer.  Although I hear he is one of the nicest guys in the game of baseball, I believe that the New York Mets contract signing of Jason Bay is the worst...

Mets Standings Before Today’s Games:

NL East Standings: NL Wild Card Standings: The Mets are right in it all, and we’re almost at the halfway point. The Mets are playing great baseball and can hopefully keep it up. They just have to stay healthy, and keep playing how they been playing all season long. Let’s go Mets!
