In a very surprising move today, the Dodgers announced that they have activated Rubby De La Rosa from the 60-day disabled list. In a corresponding move Javy Guerra was sent down to triple-a until the rosters expand in September. Barely a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery, Rubby is back and his return will be met with open arms. A fairly quick return for one of the Dodgers more promising young arms. Rubby has been very impressive during his rehab appearances, in twelve innings he didn’t allow one run. Not one. Rubby will likely spend the rest of the season as a member of the bullpen not the starting rotations. The Dodgers didn’t have enough time to get him ready for the starting rotation before the minor league season comes to an end. Instead, Rubby will get a chance to get back in the bigs and do his thing. With the bullpen a bit shaky as of late, Mattingly will likely look to his new weapon to boost the bullpen a bit as the Dodgers look to win the NL West. Last season De...

The Final Days Of James Loney

I remember a time when I thought James Loney was going to be the first baseman of the future, that pretty swing, his natural athleticism, boy did he fool us. It’s rare that someone with all the talent that James Loney possesses is unable to put it all together. Especially after putting together a couple of nice seasons. 2009 seems like such a long time ago. That was the last...

Ramirez thanks coach Mota for confidence boost

ATLANTA One of the Dodgers at the center of Hanley Ramirez's transition to the team is coach Manny Mota. Ramirez, acquired three weeks ago from Miami after his relationship with the Marlins soured, batted .395 with 14 runs batted in during the Dodgers' trip that ended Sunday, and he gave much of the credit to Mota for boosting his confidence. Mota, 74, said he and Ramirez...

Dodgers owner patient despite struggles

LOS ANGELES -- Walking into the press box in the seventh inning, new Dodgers owner Mark Walter greeted a reporter, asking how he was doing. The reporter replied that he was fine, and asked Walter the same in return. Pointing to the field, the President of Guggenheim Baseball Management said "Doing well -- except for what's going on out there". At that point San Francisco...

Opportunity not knocking for Dodgers

On Fernando Valenzuela Bobblehead Night at Dodger Stadium, the only bobbling witnessed was that of Los Angeles' grasp on the National League West race. With a 4-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants Tuesday night, the Dodgers dropped their second game in a row to open the three-game series against their fellow divisional contenders and for the second consecutive homestand have...

Tommy Lasorda's Odd Death Request

Former Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Tommy Lasorda has had recent health issues. He suffered a heart attack in June, is currently suffering from a bad case of vertigo, and he isn't getting any younger (He's 84), so its pretty normal that he is thinking about what happens when he will die. Lasorda came up with an odd, yet funny, request when he finally reaches that final pitch...

Dodgers Must Make Waiver Claim On Adrian Gonzalez

Sean McAdam is reporting via Twitter that the Boston Red Sox have placed Adrian Gonzalez on waivers. You may remember that several days after the July trade deadline passed word broke that the Dodgers had attempted to connect with the Red Sox on a possible A-Gon trade. Of course talks didn’t last very long, with time not on their side the Dodgers moved on. Now that Gonzalez is...

Rubby De La Rosa deserves his promotion to the Dodgers, but why demote Javy Guerra?

So Rubby De La Rosa is back with the Dodgers a little over a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and he certainly deserves every bit of it. In the minors, he allowed 0 runs in 12 innings while striking out 12 and walking 3. More importantly, he was sitting in the mid-90s and touching

Dodgers reinstate pitcher De La Rosa

The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated right-handed pitcher Rubby De La Rosa, who has not played in a major-league game since having Tommy John surgery last August. The Dodgers also sent the team's former closer, Javy Guerra, to Triple-A Albuquerque. De La Rosa has been impressive in his minor-league rehab appearances. In 12 innings, he had yet to allow a run. "I can...

First trip to Dodgers Stadium is full of surprises

To quote the Dos Equis, Most Interesting Man In the World: “I don’t often write Major League Baseball Stadium reviews here at Aaron Torres Sports. But when I do… they almost always become legendary.” No seriously, it’s true. To this day I still get e-mails about my Idiot’s Guide to Camden Yards, mostly from people attending the stadium for the first time and looking...
