Mike Kerwick of The Record, says it’s probably a good thing for the Mets that the Subway Series has been shortened from six games to four this season because it “brings glare” to how bad they are. This season has become a dark hour for Mets fans – darker, if possible, than any of the past four sub-.500 seasons. There’s Matt Harvey, an every-five-days beacon of hope. And there’s Zack Wheeler, an electric arm scheduled to arrive before July. And that’s about it. Ike Davis has been one of the worst hitters in baseball over these first eight weeks. Shaun Marcum is 0-5 with a 6.59 ERA. Francisco, the man who added spice to last year’s series, has not thrown a pitch for the Mets since last September. Their manager looks tired. Their players are frustrated. Their cupboard is bare. This series brings glare. It courts focus. Even if it’s just two fewer games, that means two fewer times Terry Collins and his players have to offer answers on the big stage. Trimming this rivalry hurts fans, Ker...

Lutz Is The Easy Choice To Replace Davis, But Satin Is The Right Choice

With Ike Davis all, but assured of a trip to Triple-A Las Vegas, the easy part is done. The difficult part will deciding on how to replace him, in body only, at first base. On the current roster, we already discussed some of the options available and they range from moving Lucas Duda from left field to first base, moving Daniel Murphy over to first, or giving Justin Turner significant...

Ike Davis Needs The Minor Leagues Now

The Mets said they need more time to get an understanding of what’s going on with Ike Davis in order to make a decision on what to do with him From Sandy Alderson on down these are professional baseball people with decades of experience. How can they not know Davis isn’t giving them anything; that he’s in a horrendous slump with shattered confidence? DAVIS: One of four walks...

Wheeler’s Innings Pitched Limit, Story In Post About Copping An Attitude

Sandy Alderson told reporters yesterday that the organization will limit top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler to 180 to 185 innings this season, likely meaning he will have to go through an end-of-season shutdown, similar to Matt Harvey last year. Alderson said the organization prefers to add no more than 30 innings per year to a pitcher’s workload. Wheeler pitched 149 innings last...

Can Ike Achieve The Strikeout Cycle

I want Ike to one day attempt the Strikeout Cycle. So that would be a strikeout looking, swinging, check swing strikeout & the K 2-3 putout — Matthew Falkenbury (@dailystache) May 25, 2013 As Ike Davis continues to work his way from major part of the Mets rebuild to major pain in the ass for the team and fans, things are looking bleak for him. The hits are just not there...

The Ike Davis dilemma

In a media market such as New York, Ike Davis of the Mets has been the topic of much conversation. As such, I am not sure how much more I can add to the conversation. At the very least, there are no emotional ties to the situation for me, so perhaps I can look at it from a calmer, less passionate perspective. The starting point of the story is that Ike Davis has nearly duplicated...

Mets still searching for identity after 48 games

The Mets had a .400 winning percentage in April and with four games remaining in May their winning percentage checks in at .390 for the month. It would be an easy conclusion to say that this is who the Mets are as a team yet the way they reached these marks is so different that it makes one wonder if that’s really the case at all. Do you recall the Mets winning games by scores...
