Found April 15, 2013 on IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT IS caught:
This is scary. Almost exactly three years ago, CC Sabathia took a no-hitter against the Rays into the eighth, when Kelly Stoppach singled.  Joe Girardi quickly waddled from the latrine, gave CC the hook (we were leading 8-0) and later proclaimed CC would never have thrown a no-no, because Joe was going to take him out in the ninth. That day, CC threw 111 pitches.Frankly, I wondered if Joe would have really taken out CC.  It's easy to say what you would have done, if only...But last night, where was Joe's overriding concern for the health of Hiroki Kuroda? He let Kuroda go nine. The talking point is that Kuroda's count was low: 113 pitches. Still, Kuroda is 38 - (Sabathia in 2010 was 29) - and I don't care how grizzled a veteran he is, this will be a long, lonnnnnng season.Listen: I don't want to go Rand Paul on this. Kuroda had a great night on ESPN. You could say Joe was paying tribute a great veteran - or that he was watching the MTV Movie Awards and forgot - a...

CC Sabathia Shows Just How Slimming Pinstripes Can Be, While Scott Van Pelt’s Suit Causes Him to Balloon (Video)

Fashion 101: Vertical stripes make someone look skinnier. Horizontal stripes make someone look — um, wider. Scott Van Pelt found that out the hard way in the latest of ESPN’s “This Is SportsCenter” commercials, where the TV man wears a horizontally striped gray suit that has him looking like a sumo wrestler. CC Sabathia, however, looks nice and trim — thanks, of course...

Video: CC Sabathia stars in new 'This is SportsCenter' spot

New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia is the star of the latest "This is SportsCenter" commercial from ESPN. And the video may or may not poke fun at the southpaw's hefty size.In the spot, Sabathia teams up with anchors Steve Levy and Scott Van Pelt in what essentially turns into a fashion lesson on how to look thin. The ad begins with Sabathia and Levy talking about...

Thanks to standout southpaw CC Sabathia, the New York Yankees will remain playoff contenders all season

Allowing one earned run over eight brilliant innings, standout southpaw CC Sabathia led New York to a 5-2 victory over Baltimore Orioles on Friday night at Yankee Stadium. Recovered from undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone spur in his left elbow, the 32-year-old Sabathia (2-1, 2.25 ERA) whiffed nine batters despite only touching 90 mph on the radar gun. Following an...

Yankees Game 11: Hiroki dominates

Kuroda dominates for his fifth career complete game shutout. Baltimore Orioles 0 — New York Yankees 3   Hiroki Kuroda pitched an amazing game in tonight’s 3-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles.   The Yankees turned to Hiroki Kuroda in the rubber game with the Baltimore Orioles and the choice could not have been better. In a clear dominant fashion, Kuroda twirled a complete game...

D-backs' task gets no easier against Sabathia

The format for when interleague baseball is played has changed, but the Yankees are hoping CC Sabathia's success in it will not. Sabathia remains one of baseball's winningest interleague pitchers as he gets ready to face the visiting Diamondbacks for the first time in nearly 11 years Wednesday night. Sabathia (2-1, 2.25 ERA) is tied for fourth all-time with 22 interleague...

Kuroda shines in Yankees shutout

Hiroki Kuroda pitched a five-hitter for his fifth major league shutout and Brett Gardner hit his first home run off a left-handed pitcher since July 2010, leading the New York Yankees over the Baltimore Orioles 3-0 Sunday night. Kuroda (2-1) struck out four and walked none, lifting the Yankees back over .500 at 6-5. Kuroda's eighth inning ended with a snappy double play started...

SportsCenter spot with CC Sabathia lauds benefits of vertical pinstripes (video)

While it is nowhere on par with John Clayton’s phenomenal “This is SportsCenter” ad from  last September, ESPN’s latest entry into the always-amusing ads promoting its flagship show is nevertheless a delightful little commercial. Starring New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia, the commercial features the husky hurler extolling the slimming benefits of the Yankees uniform’s...

C.C. Sabathia, Scott Van Pelt and Steve Levy star in new this is SportsCenter

It’s hard to top the ‘This is SportsCenter’ that was done by John Clayton, but this one by Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia and ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt and Steve Levy is almost as funny.

Scott Van Pelt put on a few pounds in new This is SportsCenter ad

Vertical stripes - pinstripes even - are supposed to have a slimming effect. On the flip side, wearing horizontal stripes or hoops does the opposite, making you look a bit wider than you actually are. These theories have been put to the test, but the best evidence may come courtesy of this new This is SportsCenter ad.  CC Sabathia is having a casual conversation with Steve Levy...

mid-April view of the New York Yankees

AL BEast Notebook – April 15 For all the doom and gloom of the preseason and then Opening Week, things have turned pretty well for New York lately. The Yankees have won five of their last six to sit at 6-5, much of the pitching is going well and the offense is finding pleasant surprises. There was cause for concern when CC Sabathia looked lifeless on Opening Day and then Hiroki...

MLB Game Picks - Wednesday: April 17, 2013

Yesterday featured some brilliant picks. The Twins over the Angels? I had it. The Padres over the Dodgers? Yep. Got that one. Unfortunately, there were some really stupid picks that canceled out the smart ones. Picks like the Indians over the Red Sox. Did I really pick Ubaldo Jimenez. Oh Ubaldo. Ubaldo. What the heck was I thinking? And I picked the Cubs over the Rangers!? There...
