The Texas Rangers are discussing a trade of Michael Young with the Philadelphia Phillies, according to major-league sources. Young has a full no-trade clause. If the deal happens, Yound could play third base for the Phillies. It's possible that he would not have an everyday role for Texas in 2013. Youngs current five-year, $80 million deal with the Rangers takes him through the 2013 season. Young, 36, is a seven-time All-Star and was AL Rookie of the Year in 2001 with the Rangers.

Rangers should be ashamed for way they have treated Michael Young

So much has been made of players who have become distractions while asking to be traded. For the most part, these players have acted in a selfish way to get out of places they do not want to be. Little to no regard is intended for the team the player is currently playing for. Other times teams are simply looking to dump payroll because they cannot afford the higher...

Michael Young a Good Bet for Philadelphia

The Phillies have a hole at third base, and Michael Young is a man without a position in Texas. These two problems look to be coalescing into a trade between the Rangers and Phillies, where Texas would ship Young to Philadelphia in order to give him the chance to have a regular gig again, and they’d receive a little bit of salary relief in the process. The Rangers would still...

Let The Phillies Get Older With Michael Young

There is an old adage in baseball that says pitching wins championships.  The San Francisco Giants can attest to that, as they’ve won two titles in three years on the strength of their stellar starting rotation and deep bullpen.  But while pitching wins titles, it’s youth that keeps teams playing for championships. After winning four World Series in five seasons from 1996 to...

Would You Rather- Young or Frandsen/Galvis?

Apparently Ruben Amaro Jr. is hot and heavy for the Texas Rangers Michael Young to fill the Phillies 3rd base vacancy next season.  Young has full no-trade rights and is owed $16M in 2013.  He's coming off a season in which he only hit .277/.682 and is now 36 years old.  Rangers are rumored to be willing to eat at least half of his salary, but that's still a steep price...

A Farewell to Two Mikes

In recent days, the Rangers have let go of two Mikes. One has only been in Texas a short time while the other has been a fixture for more than a decade, but they are both memorable players in the franchise, if only for me. Each definitely has a special place in my baseball heart. \\\\//// First … Mike Napoli. When he came over to the Rangers before the 2011 season, I struggled...
