Two franchises steeped in tradition, with the two oldest ballparks in the majors, and some recent history as well, met at Chicago's Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon. Daisuke Matsuzaka, making his 2nd start since coming back from Tommy John surgery, ran into some early control problems that led to a pair of Chicago runs in the bottom of the first.Matsuzaka gave up 1 hit, walked 3 and threw 28 pitches in the 1st as the Cubs scored a pair to take an early 2-0 lead that was really never challenged. The Cubs added another run in the bottom of the 2nd on a triple by the pitcher Ryan Dempster and an RBI single by David DeJesus.Aside from the early wildness, through, Dice-K pitched pretty well - allowing only 4 hits over 6 innings. He did't walk anyone after the 1st inning and struck out 3.Matsuzaka got very little help from the offense which managed only 5 hits on the afternoon. Scott Podsednik had two of them. Former Red Sox GM Theo Epstein spent some time talking with vario...

At today's Cubs-Tigers game, comedian Jeff Garlin was the guest brought in to sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame", and after his song, he sat in the Cubs broadcast booth for half of an inning. In the midst of some smalltalk about outfielder Alfonso Soriano, Garlin says "let's hope we can trade him soon!" The Cubs announce team stands in silence for a few...
CHICAGO -- Ryan Dempster knows the trade talk is out there. But he's doing a pretty good job of focusing on pitching. Dempster tossed seven shutout innings, allowing four hits, as the Chicago Cubs beat the Boston Red Sox 3-0 Friday at Wrigley Field. The 35-year-old right-hander is in the last year of his contract, and he is aware the Cubs may want to move him to help in...
The Cubs go for the series win behind Travis Wood. The Tigers counter with Justin Verlander. Over/under on Verlander K's at 11. Over/under on hits for the Cubs is 2. Take the over on the K's and under on the hits. Hell, perfect game #23 doesn't sound too unreasonable.
The Sox took on the Cubs and their former GM Theo Epstein yesterday. It was the second outing for Daisuke Matsuzaka and he was hoping for his first win of 2012. Dice would have to wait for another day.
Dice-K struggled out of the gate and showed some of those bad habits that tend to drive fans crazy. In the 1st inning, Dice-K walked three batters and had the bases loaded...

After the Sox erupted for 10 runs against the Marlins on Wednesday, folks hoped that the Sox offense was finally coming together. Not so much. The Sox were held scoreless, and amassed only 5 hits against Ryan Dempster and the Cubs on their way to a 3-0 loss....

The Red Sox loaded the bases against Carlos Marmol in the ninth, but he got out of it when Dustin Pedroia forced the runner at third to end the game. That gave Marmol three saves in...
The New York Yankees have been riding high as of late, winners of their last seven games entering Saturday. It would seem that things in the rotation were coming together behind #1 starter CC Sabathia. Even though Andy Pettitte has exceeded expectations since returning from the land of retirement at the age of 40, the Yanks want one [...]
The Tigers rolled right along with Interleague Play this week after escaping Cincinnati with a critical series win. Here's a running list of pitchers notes around the Major Leagues:
– Right handed pitcher Matt Garza is aware that he could be dealt before the July 31 Trade Deadline, but he's not worried about that according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com. “I just want to keep playing. It doesn’t matter where. I’ll pitch on the freaking moon,” Garza said. “I love the city. My kids...
Success was swift and plentiful for Theo Epstein after becoming the youngest general manager in Major League Baseball history in late 2002. At the age of 28, Epstein was thrust into the front lines of Red Sox management and found himself right at home. Barely a full year after becoming the team's GM, Epstein was sliding a World Series ring onto his finger -- the Sox's first...
