The big news from the 2nd day of workouts today was a quote from John Russell about the fifth starter job. It looks like Kevin Hart will begin the spring with a leg up on Dan McCutchen. Here's what JR had to say on Hart:“There’s competition and (Hart) knows it. He’s going to do everything he can to make sure he makes a good impression and shows he’s ready for it. We’ve got some other very good candidates, but he’s working awfully hard. Time will tell, but he’s in a good position right now.”“He feels a lot more comfortable. You can tell he’s on a mission. Everything he’s doing, from his PFPs (fielding drills) to his sides, he’s really focusing on what he’s got going on.”“He’s throwing the ball really, really well. So we’re very excited.”So there you go. Russell is obviously impressed with Hart. Based on what we saw from him last season (1-8, 6.92 ERA), I would rather have McCutchen in there, however I have not seen Hart. Who knows? Maybe he actually does look a lot better this ye...
