The Binghamton Mets scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on the rest of the way to defeat the Reading Fightin Phils, 6-3 on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Noah Syndergaard earned his third win of the season, and Binghamton is now back up to their high-water mark of 25 games over .500. Top-rated Phillies prospect Jesse Biddle started the game for the Reading, but couldn’t find his groove on the hill. The lefty faced just eight batters and threw 42 pitches before being removed from the game with two outs in the first inning. Binghamton got the scoring started against the lefty with a two-run double from Josh Rodriguez. Blake Forsythe singled up the middle to make it a 3-0 game, and Biddle was replaced by Brody Colvin with the bases loaded and two outs in the first. Colvin’s first batter was Syndergaard, and he walked him on five pitches to bring home the fourth run of the inning. Once Colvin got out of the first, he settled in nicely and shut down the B-Met off...

Jeremy Hefner Trying To Rebound From Last Start

It is amazing how a team starts getting greedy when it starts playing better. For example, had Bobby Parnell blown Monday’s save opportunity they would be trying tonight to clinch this series with Atlanta. After being 15 games under .500, the Mets are once again eight under. Several times they’ve been here, but unable to get to seven and get on the kind of roll that could legitimatize...

Is This Recent Success Sustainable?

The Mets keep rolling.  Having won 19 of their last 31, sporting a win percentage of .612 over that stretch, the Mets didn’t cool off after the All-Star break.  Taking the series against the Phillies, even after a crushing first game loss, and splitting the series so far at one game a piece with the division leading Braves, the Mets are continuing to climb their way back to...

Mets Minors Talking Points: Trading d’Arnaud, Targeting Corey Hart

In an effort to be a little more interactive with the readers, since I’m not usually around during the day to respond to comments frequently, I grabbed two comments that I thought were great discussion starters off MetsMinors… Dave in Spain commented… Satish — Ideally this would be great. I wonder if the Mets would take a look at Corey Hart on a short-term, incentive based...

WAGs Wednesday: Mets Pitcher Matt Harvey’s Girlfriend, Anne Vyalitsyna

Follow @HookTSB   If you’re a fan of baseball, by now you’ve heard of Met’s Ace Matt Harvey.  Until he appeared on Jimmy Fallon last week, most people didn’t know what he looked like, even though he bared all in ESPN Magazine’s The Body Issue.  Now thanks to Total Sports Blog, you know what his smoking hot model girlfriend, Anne Vyalitsyna looks like.  Check out some...

Mets rally to beat Braves, 4-1, back strong effort from Carlos Torres

Mets manager Terry Collins offered one specific piece of advice to his starting pitcher Carlos Torres minutes before he took the mound opposite the Braves Tuesday night: keep the ball away from Andrelton Simmons. Torres could not. Simmons, the Braves’ leadoff hitter, whacked Torres’s second pitch, an 87 mph changeup over the heart of the plate, for a home run over the left-field...

Braves Crush The Mets 8-2, But May Have Lost Hudson For Season

About the only good thing about tonight’s Mets game against the Braves were the spiffy bright orange jerseys. Atlanta beat the Mets by the score of 8-2 in front of a sparse crowd at Citi Field. Jeremy Hefner was manhandled as the Braves teed off on him for three home runs and chased him from the game after 4.1 innings. All told Hefner was charged with six runs, five earned, on...

Sickels: Satin Deserves A Major League Opportunity

You may remember a couple of weeks ago, I made a big stink about Keith Law calling Josh Satin a terrible ballplayer. In that article I wrote: What a blowhard Law has become… Never mind the fact that despite his high opinion of himself with regard to ranking prospects, he couldn’t carry John Sickels’ jockstrap. Calling Satin a terrible ballplayer, when he’s produced a career...

Misguided "Analysis"

To complain about Jeremy Hefner's second straight pitching performance and a lack of hitting in the Mets' 8-2 loss to Atlanta seems ridiculous after a game marred by Tim Hudson's most likely season ending injury ... a fractured ankle suffered when Eric Young accidentally stepped on Hudson as he was covering a play at first base. Most everybody, certainly all Braves...
