After nine great years, Jose Reyes moved on from the New York Mets.  While I, like most, was sad to see him go, the play of Ruben Tejada thus far has made him leaving much easier to cope with. During the New York Mets 6-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies yesterday afternoon, Reyes predecessor collected three hits in six at-bats becoming the first Met since Edgardo Alfonzo 12 years ago to have 10 hits in a three-game series.

With the ten hits, Tejada watched his average jump 71 points from .239 to .310.  On the year, the shortstop has collected 26 hits over 84 at-bats with 13 runs scored, eight doubles, and a .366 OBP:

Following the victory, Tejada told reporters he feels “really good,” saying:

I concentrated everything to the right. I’m taking a lot of pitches and making contact to right field now. I feel really good now. It was a great series for me, a great series for the team. We have to keep playing like that.”

I can’t help but be impressed with the 22-year-old over the first month of the season.  He is seeing 3.86 pitches per at-bat and already has 22 full-count plate appearances; in which he is 6-for-16 (.375) with six walks.  While I realize it is early and a small sample size, the youngster is quickly climbing up my (current) favorite player list; though it will be real tough to over take Daniel Murphy.  He is not Jose Reyes, nobody will ever mistake the two, but in my mind, his play is making it very easy to move on.
