PLAYERS: Adrian Beltre
TEAMS: Texas Rangers
This article might be one worth saving. The Babe is pointing his bat towards the horizon now: The Texas Rangers will hold this lead and win the pennate. Want to know why? Let’s look back at this month of August! For starters, the Rangers went 18-6 on the month. Talk about some W’s! They also were 13-3 on the road which is exceptional. It is tough to win on the road, but the Rangers made it look easy. Even the away games they lost they didn’t lose by much ( 2-4 vs the A’s, 2-3 vs the White Sox, and 2-5 vs the White Sox). Key players in the Rangers playoff push Adrian Beltre: This guy is playing like an MVP out there. Over the last fourteen days he’s hitting a whopping .405 with 3 home runs. I wrote earlier about how the Rangers were going to need to boost their power numbers to make up for the loss of Nelson Cruz; Beltre has answered the call. He is the only player keeping my fantasy team afloat this week! Lance Berkman: Berkman is set to return from the DL on September 1st and will hopefully add even more power to this Texas lineup. We haven’t seen the same numbers we have grown accustomed to from Lance, but he still has it. A lot of players have a quick spurt of power right when they come back from the DL so hopefully we have that in store for us. Just as important as the reason why the Rangers WILL win the pennant here is a list of reason why each one of the other teams in the AL West WILL NOT.  Oakland Athletics: The A’s have started to slide after a fantastic first half of the season. They went 12-13 in August. That is less than stellar. Granted, Bartolo Colon just returned from his 15 day DL stint and will hope to retake control of the hill. However, the A’s have been generally unable to close the deal. Josh Donaldson is having a weak second half after ripping the cover off of the ball earlier. Balfour has not seen the ball as much as he did earlier in the season as well and just blew a three run lead vs the Tigers. Seattle Mariners: They can’t get runs on the board. I was actually just in Seattle this weekend and was able to catch a game over at Safeco and I have to say it was probably the most boring baseball game I’ve ever seen. All due respect to the city of Seattle and the M’s loyal fans, but their lineup is terrible. I was never excited to see them hit because all of their players are such no-names. Any lineup that has Kyle Seager as their big slugger needs to be critically reevaluated. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (south of Cucamonga): We already swept them this month. The Astros also took a series from them in the middle of the month. It’s a slap to the face anytime you lose a game (let alone a series) to Houston. Houston Astros: 33 1/2 games out of first place. Enough said. So keep your eyes peeled ladies and gentlemen; The Playoffs lie ahead!

The club will recall Wolf after Round Rock ends its season Monday. The Minnesota Twins have five left-handed hitters and started four against the Rangers Friday. Ortiz was 2-1 with...

Debate swirling over Yu Darvish’s ace status

Just as some baseball people don’t believe that a player can be clutch or that certain hitters possess a special talent for driving in runs Yu Darvish doesn’t believe in the concept of the ace pitcher. A team’s best starting pitcher has the same task as the weakest link of the rotation — to allow fewer runs than the opposing pitcher while working deep into a game — and...

Twins take on familiar face in Matt Garza Saturday

The Texas Rangers have been doing just fine despite Matt Garza's struggles and Nelson Cruz's suspension. They could use a few good starts from the former, however, to set up a potential return for the latter in the postseason. Texas will seek to ride Garza to its 23rd win in 30 games Saturday night against the Minnesota Twins. The Rangers (78-56) have generally looked...

Yu Darvish Gets Trevor Plouffe Swinging With Nasty 61-MPH Curveball (GIF)

Yu Darvish doesn’t care if people consider him an “ace” or not. All he cares about is striking batters out. Darvish leads the American League in strikeouts, and she showed why with his arsenal of pitches in Fridays game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Brew Crew third baseman Trevor Plouffe got his second look of the game against Darvish in the top of the fifth inning, and Darvish...

Underdog Liam Hendriks comes out ahead in duel with Rangers' Yu Darvish

It took Twins right-hander Liam Hendriks 18 big league starts to get his first career win. He needed seven more starts to get win No. 2. To do it, all he had to do was outduel Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish. Hendriks allowed two runs (one earned) through six innings, and the Twins broke up Darvish's no-hitter in the seventh inning to score three runs and give Hendriks the win...

Twins HRs end Darvish no-hit bid, beat Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Yu Darvish's latest no-hit bid got broken up in a big way when Chris Herrmann hit a tying, two-run homer in the seventh inning and Justin Morneau followed with a home run that sent the Minnesota Twins over the Texas Rangers 3-2 Friday night. Minnesota snapped a five-game losing streak on a night when it looked as if the strikeout-prone Twins had no chance...

Rangers rout Mariners, 12-4 to complete sweep

No pitcher has ever lost more games to the Texas Rangers than one of the best pitchers in the game today. That doesn’t seem to any make sense but it’s true. And Felix Hernandez suffered his worst beatdown by the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon as they ready for the stretch run. Leonys Martin hit a three-run homer and drove in a career-high four runs and the Rangers rocked Hernandez...

Yu Darvish With the Razzle Dazzle Against Minnesota's Trevor Plouffe

Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish has been having on heck of a season. The Japanese phenom is certainly shaping up to be one of the best in the game, and proved that once again with an 11 strikeout performance (his fifth start in his last seven with 11+ strikeouts) against the Minnesota Twins Friday night. With stuff like this it comes as no surprise that batters are baffled when...
