With another successful game under the belt for John Buck, he will undoubtedly get a day off tomorrow when the Mets look to take their second straight series to start the season. Although the pace Buck is on is nice, we have to remember why he was brought here. He is a decent hitter, and we knew he had pop, but he is only holding the fort until the Mets deem that Travis D’Arnaud is ready to take his place as the team’s catcher of the future. When that happens, Buck will still get some starts, but his bigger role will be to help D’Arnaud with the transition in the major league lifestyle. Don’t get me wrong. I am liking the performance just as much as the rest of you, but I think we can’t expect too much from Buck. He’s good with the pitchers, and the ERA of the starting staff signifies that, but we can’t act like he’s the best thing since sliced bread. On the other hand, the Mets have had a few guys that they’ve signed to low-risk deals that gave more than expected. Remember Fernando Tatis? What do you expect to be Buck’s role for the 2013 Mets? Tell us in the comments below. The post The Buck Stops Here appeared first on The Daily Stache.

Collin Cowgill homered, David Wright got three hits and slumping Ike Davis added a pair of singles to lift the Mets on a brisk afternoon at Citi Field. A Running Folly

For as much as John Buck was a huge factor in Saturday's 7-3 victory over the Marlins, so was Juan Pierre. And their paths collided on multiple occasions during the game ... between Pierre bobbling Buck's two run double, and Pierre's baffling interference call when he collided with Buck well into foul territory after scoring a run, this was the kind of game that makes...

Early Impressions Of Mets Aren’t Bad

It’s always fun to examine the first impressions of a new season. For example, it is safe to say John Buck will not finish with 292 RBI. However, you might get interesting odds if you believe the 3-2 Mets will continue their pace and outplay the 1-4 Yankees. That being said, the measuring stick for success or failure is their starting pitching. If they get innings it keeps them...

Hits and Misses: Tejada’s Rut, Buck Is Keeping d’Arnaud On Ice, Satin, Montero, deGrom

No doubt that you’ve all seen or heard of the defensive woes of Ruben Tejada to start the season. This is frontpage news. The shortstop committed his fourth error yesterday. One person on twitter actually told me it was time to bring up Wilfredo Tovar. I thought he was pulling my leg, but he was serious. That’s not happening and there’s a good chance that Tovar might be...

Mets Looking For Breakout Game From Offense

Nobody expected the Mets to be an offensive juggernaut, and scoring 19 runs in the first two games should have done nothing to change that impression. Certainly the last two games proved it. They scored five runs last night, but by that time the game had already been decided. Manager Terry Collins is hoping for a breakout game today against the Marlins. “We’ve got a couple guys...
