The Cardinal Nation blog:
As part of the Nolan Ryan takeover in Texas, Chuck Greenberg was pushed out as Rangers CEO in March 2011. The Pittsburgh native has since been rumored to be interested in buying the Pirates, but owner Bob Nutting reportedly does not have his team on the market.
One club Greenberg does own is the State College Spikes of the New York-Penn League. St. Louis Cardinals fans may be familiar with that name as the Spikes were affiliated one year with the Cardinals back in 2006. Previously, the franchise was located in New Jersey, sold and relocated to a brand new, state-of-the-art complex on the campus of Penn State, Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The Altoona Mirror, the home paper of one of Greenberg’s other clubs, the Altoona Curve, posted an article about the Greenberg organization’s dissatisfaction with the constant losing at State College. The only season the Spikes had a winning record was the year the Cardinals were there.
For 2007, despite the Cardinals being satisfied with the affil...

Brutal. The Cardinals are absolutely brutal right now. Pitching? Awful. Defense? Rams-ish. Offense? Adron Chambers leads the team in RBIs for June. With one.Injuries have ravaged the Cardinals. Matt Holliday, David Freese, Yadier Molina and Carlos Beltran have all had extended time on the DL along with Adam Wainwright and Kyle Lohse on the pitching side. What was that? 6 players...
OAKLAND, Calif. It's been five days since Texas lefty Derek Holland authored one of the worst starts of his major-league career.
Holland, who will start Tuesday's game against Oakland, moved on from his 1 23-innings outing quickly.
"I let you guys worry about that stuff," he said. "I'm fine. It was just one really bad game on my hands. I've got myself...
ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) -- Roy Oswalt threw two scoreless innings in his first minor league start for the Texas Rangers.
Oswalt gave up three hits and a walk while pitching for Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday night against Albuquerque, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 34-year-old Oswalt, who pitched 11 major league seasons with Houston and Philadelphia, agreed to a minor...
St. Louis Cardinals weekly chat on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines.
Late Friday afternoon, I joined Ken Miller and Jim Brinson on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines in another installment of this year’s series to discuss the St. Louis Cardinals, “Cardinal Talk.” I am reporting from New York’s Citi Field as the Mets entertain the Cards for four games.

It was a random Sunday tweet from a Houston Astros follower, destined to be lost among the volumes of Twitter noise – except I couldn’t forget it.
“All Astros farm teams at .500 or better. Hasn’t happened in a long time.”
Player development is the main priority in all organizations, but playing winning baseball is important, too.
Of course, it would be ridiculous to declare...
Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton and Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton were selected as the American League and National League players of the month for May, Major League Baseball announced Sunday. Hamilton, who was the 2010 AL MVP, hit 12 home runs in May while hitting .344 with 32 RBIs and 19 runs scored. Hamilton has a .358 batting average this season with 21...

What a weekend! The last 72 hours for Mets fans has been so surreal, I’m still wondering if it all really happened. The defending World Champion St. Louis Cardinals have been held to 1 run…ONE! all series so far, Johan pitched the first Mets no-hitter in history (still trying to process that one), and R.A. Dickey said “I’ll see your no-hitter and raise you another shut...

Matt Harrison won his third straight start, Nelson Cruz hit a long two-run homer and the Texas Rangers beat the streaking Los Angeles Angels 7-3 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep.
The victory ended a four-game skid by the two-time defending AL champions, who lead the Angels by 4 1/2 games in the West. The clubs play 13 more times during the regular season.
Harrison (7-3) was...

In college, I once wrote a paper about a baseball player entitled “Why There’s a G-d, and Why He’s a Baseball Fan”. It was about the greatest pitcher I have ever had the pleasure to watch play the game, Nolan Ryan.
When I was a kid, Nolan Ryan was synonymous with the Angels. One couldn’t think of one without the other...
The LA Angels and the Texas Rangers have one of the most intense budding rivalries in all of sports. The two teams have spent the last few years slugging it out for supremacy in the AL West. They've talked trash. They've gotten in brawls. And now... THEY ARE MILKING COWS!!!!
Yes, that's right, that was Angel rookie outfielder Kole Calhoun going up against Texas...
Double-A Frisco third baseman Mike Olt crushed a pair of home runs on Friday while the Single-A Hickory Crawdads went deep four times. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action in the Texas Rangers' system.
