They need a Miguel Cabrera, a Prince Fielder or a Jose Bautista. It has been years since they had Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome, and Travis Hafner in their primes.
They need a hitter that can carry the team at times. The closest hitters that have are Shin- Soo Choo, Jason Kipnis, Carlos Santana, and Asdrubal Cabrera. But, they are not monsters.
Draft one; trade for one; overpay for a free agent one–but get a monster hitter!

From the Indians:
“The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled OF EZEQUIEL CARRERA from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. To allow room on the 25-man roster the Indians have designated OF JOHNNY DAMON for assignment.
Carrera, 25, has spent the entire 2012 season to date with Columbus where he hit .294 (116-394) with 65 runs scored, 19 doubles, 6 triples, 6 home runs...
Johnny Damon has been cut by the Cleveland Indians after he struggled through 64 games with his new team.
Damon, designated for assignment on Friday, signed with Cleveland on April 17 but hit only .222 with four home runs. The Indians recalled outfielder Ezequiel Carrera from Triple-A Columbus.
The 38-year-old Damon has spent most of his career with Kansas City, Boston and the...
The Cleveland Indians sent Derek Lowe packing, the 39-year-old pitcher who started the season for the Indians at 6-1 has done nothing lately except watch his E.R.A. sky-rocket as the Indians lost games to teams they should have beat. Tonight the Indians will be sending Corey Kluber to the mound to start against the Kansas City Royals. Kluber pitched a few innings last season and...
Corey Kluber’s very first pitch as a starter for the Cleveland Indians was hit out of the park in Kansas City by Alex Gordon. Yes, the Indians brought in another guy after sending Derek Lowe on his way. Kluber did what all the other Indians pitcher has done much of this season, he got rocked in the first inning giving up 5 runs and putting the Indians offense behind the eight...
Yesterday, the Indians waived Johnny Damon. The great Johnny Damon. The great Yankee, Johnny Damon. In a perfect world, we would sign him. Correction: In a perfect world, he would have never been stuck in Cleveland. Johnny was hitting .222 with 4 home runs. That's not Johnny Damon. That's Lenn Sakata. It looks like it could be the end. Not only that, but he joins Bobby...
The Cleveland Indians activated designated hitter Travis Hafner from the paternity list, the club announced Saturday. To make room on the 25-man roster, the Indians optioned infielder/outfielder Vinny Rottino to Class AAA Columbus. Hafner's wife gave birth to the couple's second child. Hafner had been on the paternity list since Wednesday. The 35-year-old is hitting...
We've seen some pretty strange and hilarious moments from the world of Major League Baseball this season but Cleveland's Carlos Santana turned in a wacky moment during Tuesday night's Royals/Indians affair. Watch as Santana gets a single thanks to a throwing error by Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar but he doesn't stay on first for long and is called out seconds later...
Hot dogs, buns, spider legs, Tribe losses: all things that comes in eights.
Doug Fister went the distance and carried a perfect game into the sixth inning as the Tigers struck for more than enough off Ubaldo Jimenez to support their cause as they won the second game of the series 6-1. Fister allowed one run in the ninth inning but permitted just four hits while walking none and striking...
We were nearing the end of Red Sox Final on Wednesday night when an interesting tidbit came across The Edge, NESN's ubiquitous bottom-of-the-screen ticker: "Cleveland Indians designate Derek Lowe for assignment." Hmmm... Lowe, now 39 years old, has struggled mightily for the Indians of late. He's 0-3 with a 15.88 ERA in his last three starts after getting pounded...
Many Red Sox fans' minds probably began to wander upon hearing that Derek Lowe had been designated for assignment by the Indians. While it's unclear if Boston is interested in bringing back the 39-year-old, who played with the club from 1997-2004, Lowe certainly seems open to the idea. According to The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo, Lowe said he just needs a "tune...
Think back a week ago at this time. The Tribe had just pulled off an incredible comeback win against the Detroit Tigers and Justin Verlander. Many, including yours truly, thought maybe, just maybe, the Indians weren’t dead yet and they had gotten that season turning win that would spring board them back into contention in both the AL Central and the Wild Card races.
But what a...
That would be welcome news to long-suffering baseball fans in Northern Ohio.
Rumors are swirling as I write that it is quite possible that Derek Lowe, designated for assignment today by the Cleveland Indians, could very well be wearing the Sox uniform again.
Lowe 39, started the season 6-1 with a 3.09 ERA in his first 11 starts but has struggled since the All-Star break, going 0-3 with an ERA of 15.88, hefty numbers for a man making $15 million this year...
DETROIT (AP) -- Miguel Cabrera's two-run homer capped a stunning five-run rally by Detroit with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving the Tigers a 10-8 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.
Cleveland has lost nine straight, and this one slipped away in unthinkable fashion. With two outs and nobody on -- and the Indians up 8-5 -- Chris Perez (0-3) walked Alex...
Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder homered on consecutive pitches to cap a five-run fifth inning Wednesday night, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox 7-5 to avoid a three-game sweep.
Delmon Young added a solo homer for Detroit, which won for just the second time in seven games.
Carl Crawford hit a solo homer for the Red Sox, who had a four-game winning streak halted....
