What a road trip. 10 games, only two wins, merely 28 runs scored. The Cubs were actually in the Philadelphia games, but walked away with three straight losses after taking the opener.
The trip closed out with a second straight, but still rare, rough outing from Sean Marshall and news of a blister shutting down Kerry Wood.
Now the first place Brewers are meeting the team at Wrigley for a four-game set. Doh.
Meanwhile, Jeff Baker is set to return from the DL. He'll probably take Wood's spot since the Cubs currently have an extra pitcher in the form of Casey Coleman. Reed Johnson won't be back quite yet, thanks to being hit in the head by a pitch while rehabbing. Alfonso Soriano is supposed to be a few days away, meaning the Cubs' offense will be back to full strength before long.
Not that "full strength" is going to overwhelm anybody, but it will be better than what we've seen over the past two weeks. Heck, regression to the mean would predict an impending improvement in offense.
