Another Cubs Blog:
Congratulations, Cubs fans. You’ve done it. You should be so proud of yourselves. The Cubs have not yet traded Milton Bradley, but he’s not going to be back in 2010. The Cubs will find a team to take him, send along half the money he’s owed (about $10.5 million) and seek a new right fielder who likely will not be as good as Milton Bradley. Well done. You all deserve a pat on the back. And a kick in the face.
Moving on, here are the potential free agent outfielders after the 2009 season. Asterisks mean some kind of option (team, player, or mutual).
Bobby Abreu LAA
Garret Anderson ATL
Rick Ankiel STL
Rocco Baldelli BOS
Jason Bay BOS
Marlon Byrd TEX
Mike Cameron MIL
Frank Catalanotto TEX
Endy Chavez SEA
Coco Crisp * KC
Carl Crawford * TB
Johnny Damon NYY
David Dellucci CLE
Jermaine Dye * CWS
Darin Erstad HOU
Cliff Floyd SD
Ryan Freel TEX
Brian Giles SD
Ken Griffey Jr. SEA
Vladimir Guerrero LAA
Matt Holliday STL
Geoff Jenkins * PHI
Reed Johnson CHC
Andruw Jones TEX
Austin Kearns * WAS
Hideki Matusi NYY
Jason Michaels CLE
Xavier Nady NYY
Magglio Ordonez * DET
Manny Ramirez * LAD
Dave Roberts SF
Gary Sheffield DET
Randy Winn SF
I can’t wait to replace Milton Bradley with Dave Roberts. Or Austin Kearns. Maybe the Cubs can sign Geoff Jenkins. Better yet, why don’t they sign Reed Johnson to play RF everyday? You know, the guy who is worth at least $785 million in the eyes of many dumbass Cubs fans. Other than Manny Ramirez and Matt Holliday, this isn’t a particularly good group of outfielders. Ramirez and Holliday would be better than Bradley, but those are probably the only two. Ramirez has a player option for $20 million in 2010. I think he declines the option and becomes a free agent, but you can’t really put Manny in RF. You can’t really put Soriano there either. Matt Holliday could play it, but the Cardinals are likely to ink him to a multi-year deal before their exclusive negotiating window is over.
You’ve finally succeeded at something you’ve long dreamed for. You have successfully made the team worse because of your actions. That is damn impressive and deserves a pat on the back. And a kick in the face. There is a price and for the Cubs that is that the team will be worse. For you, you get your pat on the back because it is quite impressive, but a kick in the face because you’re just stupid. Well done.
Here’s a list of the potential free agent outfielders after the 2010 season. These may be available because players are sometimes traded in the last year of their deal.
Alfredo Amezaga FLA
Pat Burrell TB
Eric Byrnes ARI
Frank Catalanotto MIL
Carl Crawford TB
Coco Crisp KC
Michael Cuddyer MIN *
David DeJesus KC *
Adam Dunn WAS
Jermaine Dye CWS
Jody Gerut MIL
Jose Guillen KC
Willie Harris WAS
Brad Hawpe COL *
Geoff Jenkins PHI
Austin Kearns WAS
Jason Kubel MIN *
Magglio Ordonez DET *
Marcus Thames DET
Jayson Werth PHI
That would be ******* awesome if the Cubs could trade for Willie Harris. Or Marcus Thames. Imagine how good the Cubs could be if they replace Bradley with Amezaga. Or Jermaine Dye. Think about how strong a team they would be if they put Jermaine Dye in RF. And gave up prospects for any of these super-talented right fielders. Also, it would be nice if they could lock Harris or Dye up long-term. Maybe 6 years and $75 million. That’s not as large as 3 years and $30 million so it would be a sweet deal.
Congratulations, Cubs fans. Now you need to work harder on forcing the Cubs to trade that bum Carlos Zambrano. Since he isn’t the best pitcher ever, he must go.
Oh yeah, **** you!
