The Dodgers have opted to buy out 38-year old righty swinging 3B Casey Blake for $1.25 million bucks instead of exercising his option for 2012 valued at $6 million bucks. This was a no-brainer for the Dodgers as Blake just couldn’t stay healthy in 2011. He played in 63 games for the Dodgers last year and he was 51 for 202 (.252 avg, .713 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 4 homers, 26 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Blake played in 406 games in his four years with the Dodgers and he was 366 for 1,407 (.260 avg, .768 OPS) with 197 runs scored, 49 homers, 192 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. The trade that the Dodgers made on July 26th, 2008 to acquire Blake will likely haunt them for years as they gave up switch-hitting catcher Carlos Santana to get him.
