As the Phillies Darin Ruf struggles in the early going of Spring Training (more poorly played balls than hits), the panic button needs not to be pressed. Domonic Brown who hit his third home run of the spring might be why Ruf finds himself in the minor’s when the season begins. Hitting is the main attraction of Ruf and he has not done much of it this spring, making his poor fielding skills even less tolerable. Sure it is early and Ruf  has time to prove he deserves to be in the bigs, but why rush him with his fielding, especially if we don’t need the bat. I like the kid and as a hitter he has huge potential. But, we should also want him to stay and potential lost games with his fielding, a chance not needed if Brown continues to hit. Platoon for Ruf is the likely option  if he starts the season at all with the Phillies. The Phillies have an abundance of average talent in the outfield but all that talent has played some games in left, making Ruf temporarily expendable.Similar Posts: Phillies Odds and Ends: Revere, Brown, starting pitching Phillies Odds and Ends: Hairston unlikely, platoon’s set, Ruf the man Phillies signing of Delmon Young, who’s the odd man out?
