Found June 25, 2013 on The Outside Corner:
The Philadelphia Phillies are 36-41 and have the second-worst run differential in the National League (and the third worst in baseball). They are eight games back in the NL East and nine games back for the NL Wild Card. By every appearance the Phillies are not a team in contention for a playoff berth and thus should be seriously considering selling off parts of their roster to begin building for next season and beyond, especially with several key players in the final year of their contracts. A fire sale of some sort would be prudent, right? NOPE. At least not if you ask Ruben Amaro Jr., who as the GM of the Phillies holds the only opinion on the matter that actually counts. Amaro has been adamant in recent weeks that he is not looking to start trading players away. He'll even tell you so before you even get a chance as he recently responded to an interview request from Jon Heyman with the message of, "Yes. But I'm not trading anyone." Gosh, Ruben, why d...

Could the Phillies Trade Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz, and Michael Young to the Yankees?

We can fully expect the Phillies to be in the middle of Major League Baseball trade talk between now and the July 31 deadline. As the team continues to remain below the .500 mark, with no real sign of improvement, the team may have to make some tough decisions. And...

Top 10 reasons why Charlie Manuel is questioning whether the Phillies can make a run

Um, Were 10) Have not done much with the momentum gained from the thrice-annual return of Chase Utley from the disabled list 9) Should actually have a worse record based on run differential and the number of times they've already played the Marlins, so they've actually been lucky so far this year 8) Philly Fan is already starting to look past this team for the option of...

Roy Halladay feels good so far after light tossing

Philadelphia Phillies' pitcher Roy Halladay, who has been on the disabled list since May 6 and had shoulder surgery on May 15, has been light tossing and feeling good so far. As reported by Todd Zolecki at MLB.com, "The Phillies are hopeful Halladay, who will see a doctor again on Thursday, will pitch again before the end of the season, although a potential return...

Phillies Get Papelbombed for Fourth Time in a Week

Prior to this past week, Jonathan Papelbon had converted all 13 of his save opportunities. But last night against the Padres, he dropped another bomb on the Phillies; it was his 4th blown save in his last 5 attempts. Red alert! The Phillies have been Papelbombed! Worse than that, starting pitcher Cliff Lee took a 3-0 lead into the 9th inning before the bomb dropped. After putting...

Mike Adams May Need Surgery; Could He Have Thrown Last Pitch For The Phillies?

The Phillies signed Mike Adams to be a stabilizing force in the Phillies bullpen in the eighth inning. Now it appears the Phillies will return to instability for a significant period of time as it is looking more and more that Adams could require surgery that few have recovered from...

FREDDY GALVIS: BUTTKICKER

I wanted to take a moment from my impending deportation from Chile to address Freddy Galvis' walk-off celebration. He kicks butts. He kicks them rather hard. I went back and reviewed the Phillies' walk off wins this year and Freddy kicks the man with the walk off hit right square...

Papelbon's Excuse- "Sh*t Happens"

*Mike Adams is likely done for the year with 3 tears in his right shoulder.  His 2 YR/$12M contract looks like a sunk cost now.  What does Amaro do right anymore?*Amaro doesn't know if the Phils with call up Zambrano or not because "he's been inconsistent".  Well, Lannan has been consistent...consistently bad.  Yet he's allowed to continue floundering in...

About Last Night: I went to bed just before the implosion in San Diego

Cliff Lee was masterful last night in San Diego. Chase Utley hit a home run, Dom Brown flashed some leather in left field and the San Diego Padres looked to be no problem for the Phillies on the start of a ten game west coast swing. With the Phillies up 3-0 entering the bottom of the ninth and it already half past midnight I was growing so tired that I just could not manage to fight...

How Shelby Miller Resembles the Model Starting Pitcher

I don’t know if you can really understand until he’s yours. You might’ve forgotten, but Cliff Lee pitched for the Mariners once, and while I knew Lee was an ace starter beforehand, it wasn’t until I watched him every five days that I really “got” it. Lee was perfect. He wasn’t and isn’t the best starting pitcher in the world, but he’s close, and he does everything...

Phillies Weekly Preview, 6/24-6/30

Are we back in 1997? Why are we still writing about this team? I don't know, but I don't ever stop caring. Even at 36-40, even when Karma finally bit us and convinced us that we stunk, after losses to the Mets. PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (36-40, NL East-3) @ SAN DIEGO...
