If you weren’t concerned about the health of Mets ace, Johan Santana, now is certainly the time to be.
David Lennon reports that prior to his bullpen session this morning GM Omar Minaya announced that Santana will fly back to New York later this afternoon for an MRI on 
his left pitching elbow.
If all goes well the Mets expect their ace to be back at the team’s spring training complex in Port St. Lucie on Monday night.
Obviously any injury to Santana, who pitched a career high 234.1 innings last season and posted a league best 2.53 ERA last year, would greatly hamper the Mets’ chances at making the post-season.
The fact that Santana won’t be on the mound until at least the end of week makes it appear more and more likely that the Mets will have to turn to another pitcher, such as John Maine or Oliver Perez to start on Opening Day.
