Who’s ready for another season of Tim Tebow playing professional baseball?

Tebow told reporters on Thursday that he intends to return to the New York Mets’ organization after his minor league season ends on Sunday.

Unsurprisingly, Tebow is not expected to be a September call-up by the big club. That would be an unreasonable jump for a 30-year-old who has only played single-A ball.

Tebow began his career in the South Atlantic League and batted .220 with 14 doubles and three home runs for a .649 OPS. He was later promoted to the High-A Florida State League and posted similar stats — a .225 average with five home runs and a .654 OPS. He certainly didn’t embarrass himself by any means, especially for someone who hadn’t played seriously since high school.

Tebow says this has been a great learning experience.

“In looking back, there’s a lot of ups and downs, a lot of learning moments,” he said. “Almost every day there’s something that I’ve never been through before that I’m learning.”

Tebow was a great fan draw and presence in the clubhouse by all accounts. His popularity helped St. Lucie set an attendance record.
