PLAYERS: Ike DavisLucas Duda

If Ike Davis drops any lower in the batting order, he’ll find himself in Triple-A Las Vegas anyway, so why not just send him there now? After another three-strikeout performance, Davis now has 29 Ks in 82 at-bats and is on pace for over 195 strikeouts. Back on April 17, I stated that Davis has shown himself to be nothing more than a platoon player at best throughout his major league career. I suggested that the Mets promote Josh Satin from Triple-A at the time and looking at each of their numbers now, almost two weeks later anevat the end of April, everything I wrote back then has been completely validated. The right-handed hitting Satin can give the Mets what they need desperately right now as his .333/.429/.550 batting line would attest. A product of the PCL? Not on your life. Satin has always been a great and disciplined hitter and one look at his career .397 on-base in six minor league seasons should have the suits in the front office with their tongues hanging out of their mout...

Mets Wrap: Jordany Valdespin Homer Stops Slide

Well, the Mets weren’t going to lose them all. Jordany Valdespin, whose personality would be ideal for an NBA point guard, hit a three-run pinch-hit home run in the sixth inning to lift the Mets to a 7-6 victory to snap a six-game losing streak. “We got some offense going,’’ manager Terry Collins said. “The most frustrating thing about the past six days is we’ve been...

Mets Wrap: Anthony Recker, “Hefner Didn’t Deserve This.”

Just when they needed him most, Jeremy Hefner pitched a lights-out game for the Mets with eight shutout innings, but was betrayed by another ninth-inning collapse in a 2-1 loss to the Miami Marlins, which extended their losing streak to six games. Pinch-hitter Chris Coghlan led off the ninth with a single, took second on a passed ball by catcher Anthony Recker, advanced to third...

Montero Tagged For Ten Runs In 11-4 B-Mets Loss

Erie 11, Binghamton 4 The Erie SeaWolves tagged Rafael Montero for ten runs on ten hits and handed the Binghamton Mets an 11-4 loss on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Francisco Pena collected three hits and drove in two runs in the losing effort. The B-Mets were in control for the first three innings. Binghamton grabbed the lead in the second against Erie starter Victor Larez....

Mets Frustrate Yet Again In Loss To Marlins

What can be said about last night’s Mets game that hasn’t already been said about my high school prom. It was long, nobody could score and it turned out to be a huge waste of time. They say hindsight is 20/20, but my foresight in this one wasn’t so bad either. There were a few poor decisions that were easily predictable. I’m still flabbergasted by Terry Collins’ inexplicable...

DeGrom Rocked In A Home Run Derby Loss For Binghamton

Akron 7, Binghamton 5 A promising pitching duel turned into a home run derby at Binghamton’s NYSEG Stadium, as Akron flexed more muscle than the B-Mets in a 7-5 Aeros victory. B-Met starter Jacob deGrom and Paolo Espino traded zeroes through three scoreless inning to start the contest. DeGrom cruised in the early going allowing only a lead-off single to Jesus Aguilar in the second...

Old Time Mets: Remembering Ray Sadecki

Anyone out there remember Ray Sadecki? He was a starter/reliever for the Mets from 1970-1974 and was the kind of pitcher the Mets could actually use right now because of his effectiveness in that role. They could have also used Sadecki in 2007 or 2008, which is when I chose his name on the LoHud blog when John Delcos was running the site before Howard Megdal. Those two seasons will...

Mets Minors: Who’s Hot, Who’s Not

Welcome to the first post in a weekly series called “Who’s Hot, Who’s Not,” in which we look at the hottest and coldest players in the Mets’ minor league system from the past week. Here’s a look back at the week that was. NOTE: Stats are from April 20 through April 27. Who’s Hot Jayce Boyd 1B (SAV)- Boyd has come out of nowhere this season, hitting .405/.490/.583 through...

Terry Collins Feels Guilty About Johan Santana’s Injury

Johan Santana will always be remembered by Mets fans.  He has a certain spot in the history of the franchise for throwing the club’s first and only no-hitter (until Matt Harvey throws one). Not a single Mets fan regrets the decision that Terry Collins made to keep Santana in.  He threw a career high 134 pitches in the game and was far from perfect, but he got what everyone wanted...

With Terry Collins Already On The Hotseat, Is Wally Backman On Speed Dial?

After getting off to a 7-4 start to the season, the Mets have now lost nine of their last 12 games and aside from when Matt Harvey and Jon Niese are on the hill, you don’t get the sense that the Mets will win that day. Part of the problem was a middle to back end of the rotation that was ill-conceived from the beginning. The ever so reliable R.A. Dickey was replaced with Shaun...

A Temporary End To Endless Exasperation

I have had this picture in my mind when it comes to the New York Mets over the last few years. Don't bother running a Google Image search for it, because it doesn't exist except for in my head. I picture David Wright in the dugout, looking at the camera with the most exasperated look on his face as if to say "you're going to make me go out there again", or ...
