The Toronto Blue Jays have picked up their $3.5 million contract option on infielder Edwin Encarnacion for next season and declined an option on reliever Jon Rauch.
The 28-year-old Encarnacion appeared in 134 games as a third baseman, first baseman and designated hitter last season. He hit .272 with 36 doubles, 17 home runs and 55 RBIs.

The Blue Jays brought Edwin Encarnacion back into the fold on Monday by exercising their $3.5 million option on the designated hitter for the 2012 season. Toronto faced a similar scenario with veteran right-hander Jon Rauch, but opted to buy out the final year of his contract for $250,000.
