The fun might be over for the Chicago Cubs, or at least what passed for fun. After sweeping San Diego at home this week, the Cubs head out Friday to begin a 10-game road trip to San Francisco, Milwaukee and Minnesota. Actually, the road is more long and winding than that. The Cubs are in the midst of a stretch of 16 of 19 games away from Wrigley Field. Before coming home Memorial Day to face the Padres, the last-place team in the National League West, the Cubs were on a six-game road trip, during which they lost all of those games as part of their 12-game losing streak. "We've got to play no matter where we go," said left fielder Alfonso Soriano, who has seven home runs for the season, all coming in May. "It's different time (zones), but we've got to keep playing like we played those three games here (against San Diego). Play through it, and keep winning some games." The three-game winning streak is the Cubs' longest of the season, and eve...

Chicago Cubs 50-game report card
The Cubs are 18-32 at the end of May. 30% of their season completed and they currently are tied with Minnesota for the second worst record in baseball. In May they suffered through a 12 game losing streak that exposed all the warts on the team. The losing streak was comprised of poor hitting, pitching, bullpen, fielding, base running, coaching and a bad call or two peppered...
3 Reasons the Chicago Cubs Should Trade Starlin Castro
I’ve been saying for weeks on Twitter that the Chicago Cubs, who will be one of only a handful of MLB teams selling over the next couple of months, should trade Starlin Castro, their young shortstop who has been labeled the franchise player for the time being.
But when I look at Castro, I see a great piece for a team rather than the guy that an organization should build around...

Cubs slip from last place The Cubs sweep of the Padres puts them one game behind in the race for the #1 pick. The Cubs are tied with the Twins for the second pick. Buried in this Hobbitton Times article about the sweep was a nugget about Ryan Dempster putting a hole in the wall [...]
Steve Clevenger- .500 Hitter
Do you know who Steve Clevenger is? Well, he's the backup catcher for the Chicago Cubs who is currently batting .500 for the season (13-26). The 26 year old was drafted in the 7th round in 2006 and has hit for average at every stop along his minor league journey (.309/.795 in 7 minor league seasons). He made his debut with the Cubbies last year, appearing in 2 games....

Cubs fan catches two homers in game
Your browser does not support iframes.
Move over, Caleb Lloyd. You may just have some new competition.
After going nearly my whole life without seeing someone snag two homers in a single game, I've now seen it done twice thanks to this Cubs fan in the video above. The lucky guy was on the receiving end of a home run hit by San Diego's Carlos Quentin as well...
Cubs preparing for a garage sale- everything most go!!
The Chicago Cubs are obviously not contenders this season and according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, they are letting everybody know that every player, except for Jeff Samardzija is available. “We're starting to get some early calls now,” Theo Epstein (Cubs' president of baseball operations) said. “There might be fewer sellers than usual and a lot more buyers. This...

Cubs claim Indians reliever off waivers
The Chicago Cubs claimed right-handed reliever Jairo Asencio off waivers from the Cleveland Indians on Friday in hopes of bolstering a bullpen that has struggled this season.
Asencio, who led the International League with 26 saves in 2011, began spring training with the Atlanta Braves before being traded to Cleveland on March 29 for a cash consideration. He went 1-1 with a 5.96...
Yanks Targeting Matt Garza
From Jon Heyman:If the Yankees decide they need a starter at the trade deadline, and it's loooking more likely they might, the pitcher that interests them most is Matt Garza of the Cubs.
The Red Sox also could have interest in Garza, which could result in another showdown between baseball's biggest rivals. That would also represent a big benefit to the Cubs.
Yankees...
Diamondbacks & Cubs Split, Man
