As Jon Heyman of SI.com pointed out in early November, it just isn’t likely that the New York Mets will make a run at bringing back lefty Chris Capuano for the 2012 season.

Cappy certainly won’t find a shortage of suitors this offseason as he proved he was healthy and at times, extremely effective last year with New York.
One team that is apparently interested in the 33-year-old southpaw, according to LaVelle Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, is the Minnesota Twins:

I thin the Mets and Cappy filled one anothers needs quite well in 2011. Chris got a chance to showcase his health in a pitcher friendly ballpark (3.82 ERA at Citi Field vs. a 5.42 ERA on the road) while New York got steady production from a former All-Star at a bargain price. It remains to be seen just how serious the Twins are about Capuano but it is pretty clear that they won’t get much of a fight from the Amazin’s for his service.
Back in mid-November, when asked if Capuano was a goner, GM Sandy Alderson said:

I wouldn’t say definitely. But I know one thing that we have to be aware of here is that we sign a player for one year here under the right circumstances that we not get too carried away with the relationship going forward.
There’s sort of a history here of signing a guy for a year, he does pretty well, sign him for a couple of years or what have you and things don’t go as well. That’s not with respect to Chris necessarily, but as a general rule we will take a look at these things from the perspective of today as opposed to the perspective of a year ago.”
One player that has been linked to the Mets is Jason Marquis and let’s face it, it just wouldn’t be the offseason if the Mets weren’t linked to Jason Marquis! Though Marquis is a righty, his production last year was somewhat of a mirror image to that of Cappy’s and as Mark Miller of Yahoo!Sports wrote last month:
Marquis would slot into the Mets rotation as the replacement to free agent Chris Capuano, who is said to want a two-year deal, according to SI.com.
The 33-year-old Capuano went 11-12 with a 4.55 ERA this past season while the 33-year-old Marquis went 8-6 with a 4.43 ERA for the Nationals and Arizona Diamondbacks before suffering a fractured right fibula in mid-August.”
