MINNEAPOLIS Depending on who you asked, Twins right-hander Mike Pelfrey's start Friday was either pretty good or pretty disappointing. The first opinion belongs to Pelfrey's manager, Ron Gardenhire. The latter is Pelfrey's take on his latest outing in Friday's 9-6 loss in extra innings to the visiting Baltimore Orioles. The loss can't be chalked up to Pelfrey, though, as he pitched six innings and allowed three runs. It was the second straight game that the veteran went six innings. But Pelfrey was much harder on himself than his skipper was on him after the loss. "My stuff wasn't very good at all tonight," Pelfrey said. "Against a team like that, I thought I was fortunate enough to get through six." Pelfrey was spotted a big lead after Minnesota scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to jump out to a 6-0 advantage against Orioles starter Jason Hammel. But as Pelfrey took the mound for the top of the sixth inning, Baltimore's ...

Vance Worley delivers pitch with too much rosin (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. Minnesota Twins pitcher Vance Worley's first pitch of the third inning was delivered with a bit too much rosin during Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. As Worley delivered the first pitch to Nate McLouth, an unmistakable cloud of rosin came off the ball near the pitcher's mound. The cloud was so big and such...

Pressly impressing Twins with command, confidence

MINNEAPOLIS It's hard to tell which tough situation Ryan Pressly has handled better: facing big league batters or wearing a pink backpack before every game. As the least experienced member of Minnesota's pitching staff, it's Pressly's job to tote the backpack to the Twins' bullpen as the relievers make their way out before each game. In this case, it's a...

Pelfrey, Twins look to keep improving in return home

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jason Hammel still thinks he can improve. His record outside Camden Yards can't be any better. Hammel will try to match the MLB lead in victories and become just the third Oriole in 54 years to win his first six road starts Friday night, when he makes his first appearance against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Hammel (5-1, 4.10 ERA) has...

Twins closer Perkins has soreness in left side

Minnesota Twins closer Glen Perkins has soreness in his left side, making him unavailable to pitch in the series opener against Baltimore. Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said before Friday's game against the Orioles that Perkins was hurt while striking out Boston's Shane Victorino on Thursday. Perkins struck out two in a hitless ninth inning against the Red Sox...

Arcia celebrates birthday with big night at the plate

It was a pretty good 22nd birthday for Minnesota Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia on Thursday night. One day after Arcia had four hits in a big Twins win in Boston, he tallied his first career triple and also hit a two-run home run (his third of the season) as Minnesota won 5-3 in Thursday's series finale at Fenway Park. Thanks in part to the birthday boy Arcia, the Twins took...

Bullpen helps preserve Worley's first AL win

MINNEAPOLIS Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire entered Saturday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles hoping to get starting pitcher Vance Worley deep into the game to save some innings from his recently taxed bullpen. The bullpen, a strength all season, has thrown the sixth-most innings of relief in the American League this season with the fourth-best bullpen ERA...

Twins' Pedro Florimon leaves with hamstring injury

The Minnesota Twins will re-evaluate Pedro Florimon today after he had to leave yesterday's contest against the Boston Red Sox.  Florimon came out of the game in the top of the seventh inning with tightness in his right hamstring.  The injury occurred when Florimon was trying to beat out a bunt attempt. According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, the Twins have listed Florimon...

Twins pitching update: Perkins and DeVries

As the Minnesota Twins prepare for the second game in their series at home with the Baltimore Orioles, they look to continue to parlay their good pitching fortunes, which currently has them 7th in the American League with 3.9 pitching WAR, with good news from both closer Glen Perkins and starter Cole DeVries regarding their injuries. Perkins, who was unavailable for last night...

Twins 8, Orioles 5

Ryan Doumit homered, Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau each had three hits, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-5 Saturday night. Vance Worley (1-4) struggled through 5 1-3 innings, but a strong performance by Minnesota's bullpen enabled him to earn his first win in 13 starts dating to Aug. 1, 2012. Matt Wieters connected for the Orioles, who lost for just the second...

This Sunday, a number of major leaguers will celebrate Mother’s Day by using pink bats, which will later by auctioned off to benefit breast cancer research. But despite their desire to do so, Baltimore’s Nick Markakis and Minnesota’s Trevor Plouffe will not be allowed to participate. Markakis and Plouffe had hoped to use pink-labeled bats manufactured by MaxBat Inc. to honor...

Error costly as Sox waste respectable Lackey outing

Jim Monaghan Contributing writer The Minnesota Twins used a 4-run 6th inning to beat the Red Sox 5-3 at Fenway Park and win the series 3 games to 1. For the first 8 batters, John Lackey had the Minnesota Twins completely baffled. He struck out the side in the top of the 1st inning and didn't allow a base runner until there were 2 outs in the top of the 3rd inning. The Red...

3 Stars of the game: Games 33-35

Let me start off by saying that I am sorry that I have not been able to get out the 3 stars of the game for the last 2 games. I am currently in the last week of school for the semester for myself and I haven't had much time to write anything other than research papers and review notes for my finals. With that being said the recent games have been awful, absolutely abysmal. This...
