Another day, another blown call by MLB umpire Angel Hernandez at a critical juncture in a game. Friday night at U.S. Cellular Field, the Chicago White Sox were tied 3-3 with the visiting Miami Marlins and had loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning. White Sox batter Alex Rios hit a ground ball to shortstop and the Marlins turned the 6-4-3 double play. Unfortunately, it was obvious to everyone watching, especially White Sox announcer Hawk Harrelson, that Rios beat the throw to first base. Not only should Rios should have been called safe, but the White Sox would have won the game with the runner from third coming home on the play. Harrelson, who is known for being a bit of a White Sox homer with his announcing style, was justifiably outraged after the blown call from Hernandez, who cost the Athletics a game earlier this month after blowing a home run call. Fortunately, however, the White Sox were able to overcome the bad call and win the game in the bottom of the 11th inning, so it didn't cost them the game. However, it's just another example to show Bud Selig to justify the expansion of instant replay, which clearly can't come fast enough. And how bad does Hernandez have to be before MLB gives him an extended vacation? H/T AA. Visit us at holdoutsports.com and follow us on Twitter @HoldoutSports.
