Utley is back tonight. (AP) Chase Utley is finally returning to the Phillies. Tonight at 7:05, Utley will man his familiar position at second base, bat in his familiar position in the lineup (third), and hear that familiar roar when his name is called as he steps to the plate. And in true Utley fashion, he’ll take it all in stride. For Phillies fans, it has become a holiday of sorts. People gearing up to buy tickets, taking the trek to Lehigh Valley for his rehab appearance on Tuesday night – Utleymania will reach it’s fever pitch when he settles into the box in the bottom of the first. Maybe he won’t be the same guy we’ve witnessed in the past, and maybe he won’t be the savior for this rather dreadful season. But what you can count on is an upgrade at second base, where the Phillies have posted some subpar numbers. Even with Freddy Galvis providing more than anyone could have imagined, the Phillies rank 12th out of 16 NL teams in average, 13th in OPS, and last in runs scored. Phi...

New Lineup, Same Old Bullpen

Chase Utley with shades of Joe Dimaggio in 1949, homering in his first at-bat of the season following an injury. (AP) Not even the return of Chase Utley could save the Phillies tonight, as the team fell to the Pirates 11-7 behind a hapless effort from the bullpen–a unit which has been the Achilles heel all season. CHASE RETURNS IN STYLE -Two out, nobody on, 2-2 count...

Carlos Ruiz for President… Or at Least MVP

Enough can not be said about Carlos Ruiz’s performance so far this year. It has been nothing short of amazing that a 33 year old catcher has stepped up the way that he has. After another 3-4 night at the plate, Ruiz is batting .361. That is not only tops for catchers or in the National League, but is the best in all of baseball. Chew on that for a minute. With Ruiz’s bomb of...

Chase Utley Forced to Wear No. 21 on Rehab Assignment Because Mascot Wears His No. 26

When superstars go on a rehab assignment, they usually get everything they want, including which jersey number they get to wear. It seems like that doesn't happen in Philadelphia. The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs mascot FeRROUS wears Chase Utley's No. 26, so Utley now has to wear No. 21 for the first time in his career when he begins his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Iron...

How the Phillies Spell Relief: P-I-R-A-T-E-S

After a dreadful Sunday during which the Phillies lost two games to the Rays in spectacularly bad fashion, this team needed a break. And that break came in the form of the Pittsburgh Pirates. How do you spell relief? P-I-R-A-T-E-S! The 8-3 win was a welcome sight, even if it did come at the expense of what appeared to be a little league team. Thankfully though, the Bucos took the...
