One of Major League Baseball’s great sluggers has decided to hang up the cleats.
Vladimir Guerrero announced his retirement from the sport according to Dominican Republic newspaper Listin Diario. Guerrero last played in the big leagues for the Baltimore Orioles in 2011.
“I decided to announce my retirement due to my desire to spend more time with my family” Guerrero said in Spanish as translated by MLBTradeRumors.com “as well as because of the two operations that I’ve had on my right knee.”
Guerrero spent time in the Toronto Blue Jays’ organization in 2012. He retires with 449 career home runs with a .318 average and .931 OPS.
