The Phillies surprisingly did something on Monday night that they've only done 7 out of 17 times this season: score more than 2 runs.

5 runs to be exact. They had an explosive inning too, where they plated every single one of those baserunners. Monday even marked the first time a Phillies batter homered with a runner on base. The first multi-RBI HR of the year came off the bat of Shane Victorino.

You might be thinking, "This is good news.... right?"

Unfortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth.

Not only did the Phillies lose to the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-5 and were on the losing end of things for the 3rd consecutive game, but they were getting simply embarrassed until the top of the 9th inning.

Without the 5-run 9th, the Phils would have gotten beaten Game 5 style (actually, they pretty much did). Labeling those as "garbage time runs" might even be too cliche. Especially since they came off Arizona left-hander Joe Paterson. Paterson entered the game with a 20.25 ERA on the season.

Kyle Kendrick, in a spot start in place of the injured Cliff Lee, got ABSOLUTELY embarrassed. He got roughed up for 11 hits and 7 runs in a little over 3 innings of work (only the 4th time since 1918 that a Phillies pitcher allowed those numbers in 3 or fewer innings on the mound).

By the end of the 4th inning, the D-Backs held an 8-0 lead...

With all of that said, we can only ask two things:

CLIFF LEE, PLEASE COME BACK SOON. And for everyone's sake, let's start hitting the damn ball.

The Phils are back in action at Chase Field again tomorrow night at 9:40pm ET. Vance Worley will take the mound, and will be looking to build on his last outing.
