Found March 26, 2013 on The Nats Blog:
Dave Nichols of District Sports Page organized the 2013 Washington Nationals rountable this year, where a few Nats bloggers (including me) were asked to make predictions about the coming season. It's a seven-part series, and I'll be crossposting the links here as well as my answers to each of the questions. In case you missed it, you can check out parts one, two, and three. In part four, we talked about our biggest concern with the upcoming season. You can check out the post and everyone's responses here, and here is what I wrote about on the subject: "Health. Plain and simple. It’s not that I’m concerned that the team is hurt or dinged up now. I’m concerned if someone does get hurt, especially from the starting rotation. That could significantly hinder the team’s performance considering the lack of quality starting pitching depth in the organization that is MLB ready. On paper, there truly isn’t anything that I’m outwardly concerned about, besides maybe Danny Espinosa’s strikeouts. But even then, he’s a bottom of the order hitter who can hit for power and provides exception infield defense. If that’s among your top concerns, it’s probably going to be a good year."

Denard Span forgets jersey, wears No. 91

Washington Nationals center fielder Denard Span forgot to bring his jersey on the team's road trip to Kissimmee, Florida to take on the Houston Astros in a spring training exhibition game. As a result, Span had to wear a number 91 jersey for the game instead of his usual number 2, probably because that's all that the Nationals equipment managers had left to give him. Your...

Danny Espinosa's shoulder, beard, seem to be healthy again

So Danny Espinosa is having himself a nice little spring (new approach!), and collected another 3 hits (and his first HR of the spring, video here) on Sunday. And after telling reporters in January that he played through a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder at the end of the 2012 season, Espinosa's shoulder seems to be holding up OK so far. More importantly? After growing...

Ivan Rodriguez on Hall of Fame chances

He's 41-years-old and has been retired for nearly a year. But Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez won't admit that he can't still play the game. "It's still there," Rodriguez said Monday before a PwC-SMU luncheon at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. "To be honest with you, it's still there." Rodriguez said he trains as if he is still playing and it...

Jinx! Stephen Strasburg on the cover of Sports Illustrated

Truth be told, Nats Enquirer staff doesn't believe in jinxes, but the Mr. October thing makes us all a little nervous. (Photo via @SInow)

Knobler: Bryce Harper is Hard to Hate

A lot of people hate on me for liking Bryce Harper so much. I was a little undecided on the guy until I read a book about his only amateur season. And then I wanted to immediately learn more about the guy. Then I saw him play. From his first big league at-bat, I saw that he wasn’t a fraud. I always believed in his ability, and then I decided that when you watch him play; this is...

Often injured Chris Young to opt out of Nats contract

Chris Young has a minor league contract that he can opt out of.  He signed with the Washington Nationals in hope of making the Major League roster.  That's not going to happen right now, so Young will opt out of the deal. According to Mark Zuckerman, the only way to avoid the opt out is for the Nationals to add Young to their roster. Chris Young has filed paperwork...

Report: Red Sox Among Teams With Scouts in Attendance at Chris Young’s Start Against Astros

Chris Young has made just 28 major league starts over the last three seasons, but it appears there’s no shortage of interest in the 6-foot-10 right-hander. Young, who was an All-Star as a member of the Padres in 2007, had been pitching for the Nationals this spring, but the club granted him his release on Tuesday. Young reportedly “loved” playing with the Nationals, but he...
