We all fell into the trap, and now we're paying for it. Somehow, most Mets fans, me included, actually believed the hype. We heard all the talk about how Pedro Martinez is in the best shape of his life and how he feels ready to go. We all thought he was back to '99 Pedro, back to the glory days of injury-free domination. We couldn't have been more wrong.

  • We all do this from time to time. If I had a dime for every time Braves fans had believed in Mike Hampton only to have him get hurt, I'd have at least a dollar.
  • Oh, I remember those days of Mike Hampton on the Mets...

    I don't miss him.
  • let's go PHILLLLLLIEEESSSSS
  • I think Mets fans were the only ones believing the hype. Pedro was a great pitcher but he's old, injury prone, and velocity is terrible.
  • knukeblog - aren't we all more likely to believe the hype about our own teams? Heck, sometimes I write some of the Braves hype.
  • I agree, as a fan you gotta believe the hype about your team. But I don't think you can believe Pedro's going back to his glory days no matter how much of a fan you are. He was throwing 86 mph!
  • I, for one, did not expect "vintage" Pedro. I was just expecting a healthy, able Pedro that would be effective.

    Still, I was wrong.
