According to Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog, The Mets have signed closer, Francisco Rodriguez to a three year deal worth 37 million dollars. Cerrone also reports that there maybe an option for a fourth year provided K-Rod makes a certain number of relief appearances.

The deal is contingent on Rodriguez passing a physical.

Rodriguez made headlines last year as he shattered the MLB closer record by notching 62 saves in a single season while compiling an ERA of 2.24.

Obviously this is a big signing for the Mets, as the bullpen played a huge factor in the previous two years disastrous endings.

Although this is by no means the solution to the Mets late inning woes, it certainly is a huge step in the right direction, and could catapult the Mets back into the postseason.

Update: According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, The deal includes a $14 million vesting option for a fourth year that would raise the total value of the contract to $51 million.
