1. As you look at this team now, what still needs fixing? The bench is weak. The team needs to continue stockpiling young talent but besides doing that they need to DEVELOP them as well. All the potential in the world means nothing if it isn’t developed well. Continue bringing in coaches at all levels with solid track records. – Joe S. Batting Average w/RISP can always use some improvement. – Ben The defense. Duda and Murph obviously have to play, and they will never be above avg. fielders but they have to execute the simple plays. – Will The offense needs to step it up a little to take some pressure off our pitching staff, which already has to deal with a makeshift defense out there. – Satish The bench i feel the team is very weak off the bench also continued improvement at 2B from Murphy. – Daniel The starting pitching needs to rest the pen. The pen has pitched very well, but we saw on Sunday what can happen to a taxed bullpen. – XtreemIcon Mike Pelfrey and Jason Ba...

Shortstop Wars Round 1: Reyes Vs. Tejada

I thought it would be fun to track Jose Reyes this season as well as his replacement Ruben Tejada. It will be an interesting case study to see exactly how much the Mets actually lost offensively and defensively by replacing Reyes with Tejada, and if that difference is worth the $106 million dollars it would have cost to retain him. The great thing about this from a fairness perspective...

Jason Bay Scratched With Jammed Finger

Just as abdominal injuries were this spring, it appears finger injuries have become contagious as Jason Bay will miss today's game with a jammed index finger.Originally scheduled to have the afternoon off, Lucas Duda is back in the lineup for the Mets. Scott Hairston, who was going to fill in for Duda in right, will now slide over to left to fill in for Bay.The injury doesn&...

Post Game: Bullpen Unable to Hold Lead as Phils win 8-2

The New York Mets (6-3) were unable to complete a series sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon as the Mets bullpen blew a solid start from Mike Pelfrey, taking the game 8-2.Mike Pelfrey ( 3.09 ERA) was far from the 8-strikeout dominance that he showed during his first start but managed to hold the Phillies to 1 run over 6 solid innings of work. Despite allowing 8 hits...

Maybe Jason Bay should patrol left while holding a pizza

The pizza didn't stop this Diamondbacks fan from catching a pop-up. Every time you check your email, think -- gotta check Bob's Blitz. Follow us on Twitter. Subscribe, or Return to Bobs... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Gee Cruises, Bay and Davis Homer In 6-1 Win Over Braves

Recap Mets are just spoiling us with all this offense including the homeruns. Ike Davis with a three-run homerun to break the game open, and after Jason Bay robbed the Braves of a homerun, hit one himself deep in center field for a solo shot and an insurance run. Broken fingers seem to be helping the Mets. Dillon Gee had a great start this afternoon allowing only one run on four...

If You’d Told Me The Mets Would Start Off 2012 Going 7-3…

The Mets are off to one of the hottest starts in their 50-year existence and I, for one, am reveling in it. Summer has come early, both metaphorically and meteorologically. An 80-plus degree April 16th — coupled with Metsian success on the field — is conjuring up images of those lazy, hazy, crazy days. It could be called “early-pennant-race” weather. The Wall Street Journal...

Mets need strikeout-averse Pelf to go deeper into games

The starting pitching of our Metropolitan baseball club has been sublime so far this season. Johan Santana, R.A. Dickey and Jon Niese have been on top of their games and been able to keep the Mets competitive despite an inconsistent first week of offense. However, the job of a pitching rotation isn’t just a matter of quality, but quanitity as well. The more innings the starters...

Watch Jason Bay make an insane catch

Criminal Acts and Argument Fallacies

It isn't so much that they lost to the Phillies, but it's that the way they lost is how I fear they'll lose a small boatload of games this season.Mike Pelfrey somehow danced his way through six innings, giving up eight hits and walking two and only striking out two batters. And yet, he only gave up one run. Whenever the Mets give away a game where Pelfrey doesn't...

Post Game: Braves Crush Mets 9-3

The New York Mets were finally defeated by the Atlanta Braves tonight at Turner Field 9-3 behind Johan Santana's shortest outing of his career in which he allowed 5 runs in 1 1/3 innings.Johan Santana (1-1, 3.97 ERA) struggled from the outset as Jason Bay dropped a fly ball that eventually allowed Michael Bourn to score in the opening frame. The Braves didn't look back from...

Post Game: Ike Homers then Offense Slumbers, Phillies Win 8-2

Blast from the Past: Former Met Ty Wigginton got "Wiggy with it" with a four RBI game against the Mets The Mets scored twice in the top of the first inning off of Phillies’ started Cole Hamels as Ike Davis smacked a two-run homerun to right field to bring around David Wright who had singled in front of him. Mike Pelfrey started for the Mets who were looking for their...

Ike Homers, But Phillies Avoid The Sweep With 8-2 Win Over Mets

Ike Davis got the Mets off to a quick start with this two run shot in the first inning off Cole Hamels to put the Mets up 2-0 over the Phillies this afternoon at CBP. But that would be all the scoring in the game for the Mets as they fell to Phillies 8-2 Mike Pelfrey started and tossed six innings while working himself in and out of trouble. Luckily, he allowed just one run after...

This latest victory was the Mets fourth straight win over the Braves this season.Gee was pleased with his performance: "I was trying...
