So last night I’m having an email exchange with one of our writers, Clayton Collier. We talked about the Mets and Dickey mostly when he suddenly tells me he just asked free agent Omar Vizquel if he would ever consider signing with the Mets if they made him an offer. Surprisingly, Vizquel replied and said, “Not, really”. Clayton wondered if he should make a post about it on MMO and of course I told him I don’t think that it was worthy of it’s own post and maybe it would be an interesting part to a Mets Notes like post. Anyway, this morning I go online and what do I see as the top stories on MetsBlog and MLB Trade Rumors? Yeah, you guessed it. This goes to prove two things I always tell people: 1. One man’s garbage is another man’s gold. 2. I still have a lot to learn about running a fan site. Now as for Vizquel giving the Mets the “persona non grata” treatment, it goes to show that even players at the end of their rope would rathe...

A Letter To R.A. Dickey

Dear R.A. It has come to our attention that you plan on doing a charity junket to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, in Africa. Although we are sure that it is for a worthy cause, unwed mothers is that right? As your employer the N.Y. Mets respectfully request that you reconsider. Mountain climbing is the third most dangerous sport in the world, eclipsed only by shark punching, and professional...

Mets miffed with RHP Dickey's mountain climbing plans

New York Mets righthander R.A. Dickey intends to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro, despite the team's objections. The Mets sent a "procedural" letter to agent Bo McKinniss "just to cover themselves legally" after the knuckleballer expressed his desire to make the climb for charity, sources told the New York Daily News. Dickey, who is slated to receive $4.5 million...

RA Dickey is necessary precautions to be safe

R. A. Dickey will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in January as he looks to raise awareness for the Bombay Teen Challenge, an organization that rescues and cares for women and girls in Mumbai who are at risk of being abused and exploited. “To reach the summit, he will have to ascend to 19,336 feet above sea level, traversing a path that begins in 85-degree heat and ends with the ground...

Mets ask Dickey not to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro

According to ESPN NY, the Mets have asked R.A. Dickey not to make his charity climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. However, Dickey still plans on going, according to the Wall Street Journal. Though trips up Kilimanjaro are apparently not fatal or even that dangerous, the Mets have sent Dickey a letter saying they can void his contract if anything bad happens. "If we thought...

New York Mets’ R.A. Dickey to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro

Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro would be a pretty damn cool thing to add to your life resume.  There aren’t many people who would even be willing to follow through with a challenge of that magnitude – let alone be able to physically accomplish it.  With that said, R.A. Dickey’s journey up that mountain will not directly lead to more tallies in the win column for the...

R.A. Dickey Will Climb Mount Kilimanjaro Despite Mets Advising Against It

R.A. Dickey is aware of the risks involved if he climbs Mount Kilimanjaro, but he plans on doing it anyway.  The 37-year-old Mets pitcher has been planning to make the trek for months, joined by former Twins teammate Kevin Slowey.  Earlier this week, the Mets sent Dickey a letter urging him to not go through with the climb and reminding him that his $4.5 million salary for 2012...

Omar Vizquel will not join the Mets

In a post to Twitter, SS Omar Vizquel said, if offered a contract, he would not be interested in joining the Mets next season. Vizquel, who will be 45 in April, hit .251 with eight RBI in 58 games for the White Sox last season. In 23 big league seasons, Vizquel is a .272 career hitter with 2841 hits and 402 stolen bases and an 11-time Gold Glove Award winner at shortstop. Michael...

New York Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey is going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro -- even if his team isn't all that thrilled about the potentially dangerous adventure.

Mets try to stop Dickey from climbing Kilimanjaro

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — When he goes out for his daily run, Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey straps on a black mask covering his eyes, nose and mouth. The guise has two distinct effects. The first is to limit his oxygen intake, simulating the conditions at a high altitude. The second is...
