A royal wedding will take place in jolly ol’ England next weekend, but we are keeping our one and only correspondent right here in Washington to cover the Giants and Nationals four game set. Tough, tough duty to have to tell him that.
In the past six seasons, when the Giants traveled to the nation’s capital, there’s been a storyline for each visit. Their first visit in 2005 came late in the season, but the long wait was rewarded with an exciting game. In the fourth, Bonds launched an unforgettable laser beam into the upper deck at RFK, his 706th home run that tied the game at one. Down 2 to 1 in the ninth, Moises Alou cracked a two-on, two-out homer, insurance that proved needed when the Nats scored a run in the bottom, and loaded the sacks off Armando Benitez (Don’t shoot me, I’m only the messenger!). Proving there are angels, Todd Linden then made a diving catch in left to end the game.
