TEAMS:
Philadelphia Phillies
While I love all Philadelphia sports teams, there is something about the Phillies that speak to my soul. Back in the late 1980s my father purchased the Sunday partial season ticket plan. Now, of course, at the time the Phillies were horrible. Despite this, I came to love them anyway.
Sundays after church in the summer were always about going up to the Vet and sitting in the blistering sun. Like church, from an early age I came to the opinion that you never, never leave a game early. The only time I’ve ever left a game early has been when I was dependent on others for rides. I was lucky enough to be at the Vet in 1993 when the Phils beat the Braves to clinch the pennant. It was the greatest feeling I ever had, until 2008, when I was lucky again: I was at Citizens Bank Park for Game 5. I remember being at the Parade and it was a gorgeous fall day. I felt that God was telling all Phillies fans that we had to suffer through the years of horrible seasons, Joe Carter, and several rainy W...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: The big surprise
The games will begin soon for the Philadelphia Phillies, and Darin Ruf will be the most fan-followed athlete in camp. However, there are many interesting aspects this March. Which player will provide that certain magic before heading north? Projected 2013 Phillies Opening Day lineup
Instead of a morning round-up of links today I thought it would be fun to take a look at the projected Opening Day lineup for the 2013 Phillies.
A few things to keep in mind when putting this together:
Remember that catcher Carlos Ruiz will be serving a 25-game suspension. This makes Erik Kratz the most likely candidate to receive the opening day job behind the plate.

Top 5 under-the-radar Phillies to keep your eye on
When Spring Training first begins, reporters and cameras flock to the usual suspects like Howard, Halladay, and Utley; and newcomers like Adams, Young(s), and Revere. But what about John Lannan...and Kyle Kendrick? They could be sucking their thumbs in the corner and nobody would notice.
Clearly the success of the Phillies rides with the superstars, but I thought I would focus on...
Cheat Sheet on Phillies Spring Training quotes
Wednesday was the first official day for pitchers and catchers. It was also the first official day for every reporter to stick a microphone in the face of every player's face to get a few quotes.
It is great to finally have baseball in the discussion again. And it is also annoying. With virtually no new Phillies news for months, all of a sudden there are five thousand Phillies...
Should the Phils Call Lohse?
How likely are the Phillies to recreate this photo in 2007? Not very.
Flashback to 2007: the Phils, on the outskirts of the playoff race, trade one of their Top 10 prospects, Matt Maloney, to Cincinnati to acquire right handed starter Kyle Lohse. Lohse goes 3-0 with a 4.72 ERA in 13 games, 11 starts, en route to making one of the most improbably comebacks of all-time and capturing...
Last year Joe Mather, this year Brent Lillibridge?
Last season Joe Mather was signed to a minor league contract and then made the team. Joe Mather was not any good. Not before he signed with the Cubs and especially not with the Cubs. Despite this, he still had nearly 250 plate appearances.
Joe Mather was the worst player in baseball last year. Baseball Reference only thought he was the 5th worst player in baseball.
In four seasons...
Phillies OF Delmon Young to start season on DL
When the Philadelphia Phillies signed free agent Delmon
Young this offseason, they were hoping he would be one of the team’s Opening
Day outfielders. However, Young is behind schedule in his recovery from
microfracture surgery on his ankle, a procedure he underwent in November, and
it appears he could start the season on the disabled list, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com...
D. Young Will Not Be Ready for Start of Season
As anticipated, Phillies outfielder Delmon Young will not be ready for the start of the season and will miss “a while” according to Charlie Manuel. On the bright side, Young reported to camp to 30 lbs lighter according to John Clark of NBC 10 but comes to camp without any expectation of when he expects to play according to Ryan Lawrence. Young’s absence creates an opportunity...
Philadelphia Phillies: Delmon Young likely to start season on DL
Coming off offseason surgery, Philadelphia Phillies OF Delmon Young is likely to start the season on the team’s disabled list. Young reported to camp this morning but did not address reporters. He underwent microsurgery in November and is already behind in his rehab work. His surgery was in order to remove bone spurs and to smooth out cartilage on his ankle.

Prospect Nation 2013: #11 Catcher Sebastian Valle
Sebastian Valle, a righty hitting catcher, has proven himself worthy of high praise during his time in the Phillies’ minor league system. Displaying considerable power and crucial skills behind the plate, Valle could be an option to help the big league club in the near future.
After signing as an international free agent at the age of 16 in 2006, Valle began his pro career playing...
Phils Add Corey Young

According to Matt Eddy of Baseball America, the Phillies signed left-handed pitcher Corey Young, 26, last week to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Minor League camp. Young, a Seton Hall alum, comes to the Phillies organization after being released by the Rangers in June 2012....
Offseason Review/Clearwater Preview
The offseason has been one of underwhelming feedback for Ruben Amaro Jr. Sports Illlustrated gave him a D. I think the grade is a bit harsh. The biggest reason for loss last year outside of injuries was the bullpen. With the additions of Mike Adams and Chad Durbin added to...
Charlie Manuel has no plans to retire from Phils
Charlie Manuel says he has no plans to retire after this season and wants to continue managing the Philadelphia Phillies.
Manuel, the franchise's all-time leader in wins, is entering the final season of his contract and it's widely assumed that Hall of Fame infielder Ryne Sandberg, the team's new third-base coach, will eventually replace him.
''I still want...
