Brett Lawrie has served the four-game suspension brought upon by his helmet-tossing after Bill Miller called him out on strikes in the ninth inning of Toronto's 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday. It was just another example of the Blue Jays not getting the bounces. When Lawrie tossed the helmet, it bounced up and hit Miller on the hip. Score it a bad-hop hit. So where does Lawrie's return leave Yan Gomes, who was called up on Thursday from Class AAA Las Vegas to play third base for Lawrie? You would hope that leaves Gomes right where he is -- with the Blue Jays, doing something. This guy showed at spring training that he can play and did nothing to dispel that notion at Las Vegas or with Toronto. "A quiet confidence, a guy who's got strength in his game, whether that's arm strength, strength in the bat," is the way manager John Farrell describes Gomes. His arm, the manager said, is a "cannon." Gomes already has shown he can play third ba...

Kyle Drabek overcame command issues to win for the first time on the road this season, Yunel Escobar hit a tiebreaking homer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 on Monday night. Drabek (4-4), who entered 0-3 with a 5.23 ERA away from home, allowed two runs and three hits in six innings. The right-hander walked six, struck out three and had three wild pitches. ...

Morrow, Blue Jays shut down Mets

TORONTO -- As good as Brandon Morrow was on Saturday in pitching a three-hit shutout as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Mets 2-0, he still needed a couple of defensive gems from right-fielder Jose Bautista. Bautista made a fine catch going out toward the wall in right field on a sixth-inning line drive by Andres Torres. And then in the ninth threw out Mike Baxter trying...

Moore looks to dominate first start vs. Toronto

Tune into Sun Sports at 6:30 p.m. to watch the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Toronto Blue Jays. Matt Moore is coming off yet another defeat, but the Tampa Bay Rays believe their highly-touted 22-year-old is on the verge of a breakthrough. Fellow rookie Drew Hutchison is starting to hold his own in the Toronto Blue Jays' rotation. With Moore looking to avoid losing a fourth straight...

Blue Jays 2, Mets 0

After eight innings of futility, the Mets' best chance to beat Brandon Morrow was cut short by a close call on the bases. Morrow pitched his second shutout in four starts, blanking the Mets on three hits and leading the Toronto Blue Jays over New York 2-0 on Saturday. ''Morrow was sharp tonight,'' New York's Mike Baxter said. ''He made a lot of good...

Toronto Blue Jay’s Brandon Morrow Gets Complete Game

I must admit, after the Jays swept the New York Yankees in their last series, I wasn’t expecting too much this weekend when they faced the New York Mets. Well, they surprised me again by winning the first two games and came very close to another sweep on Sunday.  Not to mention that outstanding pitching performance by Brandon Morrow on Saturday afternoon. Friday night’s game...

Morrow filthy as I go home empty handed

When Brandon Morrow was coming up through the Seattle Mariners minor league system, he was touted as a power arm who had the ability to become the ace of a pitching staff. He started out as a relief pitcher for the Mariners, but never seemed to get it together. Seattle impatiently traded him to the Toronto Blue Jays, in return getting their current closer, Brandon League. A...

Series Spotlight: Blue Jays at Rays (May 21-23)

I was considering four matchups for this series spotlight. Two of them featured the teams included in the last series spotlight. One was a matchup I had already looked at. The fourth matchup features a team I have written about extensively in series spotlights, and a team under .500. After giving it some thought, I decided to go with this Blue Jays-Rays matchup, just because I haven...

Mets 6, Blue Jays 5

TORONTO -- Right-hander Dillon Gee allowed five hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings and David Wright drove in two runs with a first-inning double as the New York Mets held off the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on Sunday. Mike Baxter was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle before an announced crowd of 41,867 at Rogers Centre as the Mets ended their two-gake losing skid and stopped...

Pre Game: New York Mets (21-19) @ Toronto Blue Jays (23-18)

Yesterday afternoon the Mets were shutout by the Blue Jays 2-0.  Brandon Morrow threw a complete game 3 hitter.  The closest the Mets came to scoring was in the 9th inning when with 1 out and a man on 1st, Mike from Whitestone lined one down the right field line and was thrown out at 2nd by Jose Bautista.  The replay showed that Baxter was safe.  Today, Dillon Gee (sans goatee...
