Johan Santana threw this first no-hitter in Mets history earlier this season. The Mets placed 33-year-old starting pitcher, Johan Santana, on the 15-day DL with no expectations for him to pitch again in 2012. This leads me to ask this question: If Johan Santana doesn’t pitch the first no-hitter in Mets history, is he still beloved at this point? 2009: Sat out for the rest of the season on August 25 due to bone chips in his left elbow. 2010: Sat out for the rest of the season on September 3 due to a torn anterior capsule in his shoulder. 2011: Out the whole season recovering from surgery. 2012: 15-day DL stint for a sprained ankle.  Sitting out the rest of the season now due to inflammation in his lower back. It’s a good thing the Mets aren’t making a run at the post-season because they would be down their star pitcher for the 4th year in a row.  Is Santana getting a pass because fans think, “Well, the Mets are out of it, they don’t need Johan right now anyway?”  If that is the case,...

Mets shut down Johan Santana

The Mets are shutting down starting pitcher Johan Santana, effective immediately. Santana has been awful since throwing the first no-hitter in Mets history on June 1st against the Cardinals. Perhaps oddly, the issue isn't with Santana's surgically repaired shoulder, but instead his back. The former two-time AL Cy Young winner didn't pitch in the majors at all last...

Knowing they have little left to play for this season, the Mets shut down Johan Santana for the stretch run Thursday, placing him on the disabled list with inflammation in his lower back. Santana first felt the discomfort flare up after his last start, in which he gave up six runs in five innings. Earlier this week, he underwent an MRI, which revealed the inflammation. So the Mets...

Mets 101 News and Notes: Could Johan Santana Be Done for the Season?

As the New York Mets continue their slow march to the end of the regular season, one troubling trend that can't be ignored is the sudden decline of Mets starter Johan Santana. Santana, who delivered what looks to be the apex of the 2012 season with his no hitter on June 1st, has fallen into a tailspin since that game. Santana's ERA since his no hitter is...

Rich Or Poor, Mets Still Make The Same Mistakes

Despite four consecutive years of bad baseball, I think most of us can agree that some things are more frustrating than losses.  What I’m talking about is insult to injury.  Its having your fandom dragged through the proverbial mud as a result of not just the team’s performance on the field, but their disastrous attempt at public relations off of it. Some highlights of the...
