David Wright, who is yet to play in a GrapefruitLeague game this spring due to a torn abdominal muscle, but  did full pregame work with teammates on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon Wright took three at-bats of live batting practice followed by a regular session of batting practice, according to David Lennon of Newsday. Hitting coach Dave Hudgins — who did not travel with the club Sunday — stayed behind to watch David’s session in Port St. Lucie and according to Lennon said, he “looks great”

On Saturday, the Mets third baseman told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, he still needs “a few more” complete days of workouts before appearing in games:

We haven’t put a timetable on it throughout this process, and I’m not going to start now. It still depends on how I feel tomorrow and the next day. … But, I’ve got to be able to do this for four or five days before I go out there and get put in a game situation.”

With less than two weeks until the season opener, seeing Wright play in a Grapefruit League game — at some point this week — will be very encouraging; making me much more confident that his name will be written in the heart of the Mets lineup come April 5th.  My only concern is that he will not have had enough spring at-bats which could lead to #5 getting off to a slow start to the regular season.  Something the Mets will not be able to afford if they wish to get out of the gate quickly. With that said, it will be nice to  see — at some point this week — the 3-4-5-6 of  Wright, Ike Davis, Jason Bay, and Lucas Duda all in the same lineup.
