New York Mets
The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 5-1 last night improving to 10-8 in the process.
R.A.DICULOUS: R.A. Dickey improved to 3-1 on the year, allowing one run on three hits over seven innings.
Dickey retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced — including 10 in-a-row — before Omar Infante ended the streak with a solo home run that landed deep into the second deck in left field giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead. Gaby Sanchez followed the Infante blast with a double to left before R.A. settled down to retire six straight.
The weather cooperated and I was thankful for that. …We were both throwing strikes and doing what we do best. And, every game is another opportunity to excel at a craft that you really enjoy doing. And so, the hard thing sometimes is to put bad outings behind you, so it’s nice to have one like this.”
ALL-TIME RBI LEADER: David Wright blasted a go-ahead two-run home run which landed into the new Party City deck in left center field to give the Mets a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish. The two-run bomb pushed Wright passed Darryl Strawberry for the franchise All-Time RBI record with 735.
I think that just kind of growing up and knowing the history of the organization, to have your name mentioned in the same breath with [Darryl} Strawberry and [Mike] Piazza and some of these guys it’s quite an honor. And, hopefully there’s more to come.”
“That’s pretty special,” manager Terry Collins said, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York. “That tells you what type of player he’s been, and he’s gonna put that mark out of reach pretty soon, I hope.”
BAXTER, IS THAT YOU? With two-outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the eighth inning, Mike Baxter was brought in to pinch hit for Scott Hairston. Baxter promptly delivered a double to left to break the game open and give NY a 5-1 lead.
BREAK OUT THE BROOMS: The Mets will look to sweep the Marlins tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 pm in Citi Field when they send Jon Niese to the hill to face Ricky Nolasco.

Frustrated himself, Wright shows leadership.
David Wright has always been the unofficial captain of the Mets. Once they extend his contract – which they should – it would be a good idea to make it official. That’s because just about everything he does shows leadership.
Take last night for example.
It was cold and damp. A good night not to be playing baseball. Still, late in...
PRICE IS WRIGHT

New York Mets third baseman David Wright has had a rough past few seasons, battling injuries and a team that has essentially fallen apart around him. But on Wednesday night the 29-year-old finally had a reason to celebrate, as he broke the franchise’s all-time record for runs batted in.
In a 5-1 win over the Miami Marlins, Wright went 1-for-3 with a go-ahead two-run home run in...

Mets 5 - Marlins 1
David Wright drilled a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the 6th inning, giving RA Dickey all the runs he needed as the Mets topped the Marlins 5-1. David’s clutch blast put him at the top of the Mets all time RBI list. Following the game, the normally modest, Wright could not contain his joy; informing the press that he intended to celebrate old school style: “I’m planning

David Wright set a historic team record last night when he homered off Mark Buehrle to give the Mets a 2-1 lead, a game they ultimately would win 5-1. Those two RBI were the 734th and 735th of his career, setting the Mets record that was previously held by Darryl Strawberry. It’s amazing that he’s in his 9th season with the Mets. Even if he only finishes out his current contract...
David Wright set the Mets’ all-time career RBI record last night, passing Darryl Strawberry, but he was already high on the list of the greatest Mets position players of all time. In fact, by Wins Above Replacement, Wright already is the G.M.O.A.T. — Greatest Met Of All Time. (Other than Tom Seaver, of course. No shame in that. Tom Terrific is probably one of the two or three...
While "showing up at Citi Field" does not quite have the same ring as "showing up at Shea," Squawker Jon and I are going to be at Citi Field tonight for Jose Reyes' return to Flushing. Jon is showing up because he is a Reyes fan. I am showing up because I can't resist a chance to stick it to the Mets for not even making an offer to their best position...
With the Mets set to start a weekend set against the Rockies in Colorado, it’s only natural for us to think about power and home runs that seem to fly out of that place with the thin air.
You can bet that the Mets are thinking about it as well. Speaking of betting, sports betting websites can be found at this link. With the rut that Ike Davis is in, this is a bad idea for him....
Coming off of their sweep of the Miami Marlins, the New York Mets will look to steamroll into the mile high city continuing their winning ways. The Mets last visit to Colorado represented a turning point in many ways. Carlos Beltran broke out, Ike Davis' season ended unceremoniously and David Wright's injury continued to plague him. Despite this, the Mets would stride toward...

I must admit, that following their rough stretch against Atlanta and San Francisco, I thought the Mets were heading into a tailspin. However, strong pitching performances from Johan Santana and R.A. Dickey – following up stinkers – appear to have stabilized.
I’m not saying all is well as it is way to early for that, but I have seen the Mets respond to a weekend like the one...
