The Mets (70-83) lost to the Pirates (75-78) by the score of 10-6 on Tuesday evening at Citi Field.
I have to be honest – I am low on energy tonight. So I apologize in advance if this is a little…lackluster. David’s face describes my mood. Kudos to him, though, as he tied the Mets all-time hit record.
This was not Collin McHugh’s night at all as he struggled mightily against the Pirates in what can be filed under the expected growing pains of a young pitcher. He was only able to record four outs while allowing five hits and three walks – with no strikeouts recorded. One of those hits was a HR, allowed in the first, to Pedro Alvarez to top off a four-run first against him. He was knocked out in the second in favor of Justin Hampson, who came in with the bases loaded and allowed only one to cross the plate, via error. Hampson would go on to hold the Pirates scoreless for the next 2.2 innings.
