Yankees-cano-gets-high
Watching the New York Yankees lose a brutal 18-inning game, 3-2 to Oakland last night made my eyes bleed. Yankees Robinson Cano frustrated. (Image from NY Daily News) Not only did the Yankees lose to the A’s with Mariano Rivera on the bump, they got swept in the series. It was painful, sad and scary all at the same time for me, as a Yankees fan to swallow. The issue is not secret when you look at the Yankees batting stats on the season. Compared to the top AL teams, the Yankees lack of runs scored, walks, RBIs, total bases and home runs are in the bottom half of the league. When I think about it this shouldn’t be a huge shock considering the team they started with this season. But they were winning games, as clear by their 37-29 record in turn making it very easy to marginalize the bad numbers. The latest stop on the “Mariano Rivera Farewell Tour” [...]The post Mariano Rivera...

Mariano Rivera Continues MLB Farewell Tour, Surprises A’s Employee With Pizza (Photo)

Mariano Rivera will hang up the spikes after this season, and the surefire Hall of Famer is being sure to give back before he calls it a career. Rivera already took the time to meet with and sign autographs for a large group of Cleveland Indians team staff back in April. On Wednesday, during his final regular-season trip to Oakland, the closer arrived at O.co Coliseum with a surprise...

As Rivera's ''Enter...

Posing as a pizza delivery man, New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera surprised longtime Athletics employee Julie Vasconcellos by visiting her in the mail room where she has worked going on 25 years. Rivera carried in a pizza box and brought Vasconcellos to tears as he thanked her for her 2 1/2 decades of hard work behind the scenes. The 43-year-old Rivera says this is the most...

Mariano Rivera delivers pizza to Oakland A's employee

As New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera continues his farewell tour across the Major League Baseball, he decided to pay his respect one member of the Oakland Athletics organization. Oakland A's mailroom employee Julie Vasconcellos (who have worked from the A's for 20 years) got a special surprise from Mariano as he delivered a pizza to her. Below is the video of the...

Do Guggenheim Dodgers Have $ To Land Cano?

The Guggenheim Group that now owns the Los Angeles Dodgers could be in for a big cash windfall. Yeah, you know, the same guys that unburdened the Red Sox of over a quarter-billion dollars in salary (and threw in a couple of blue-chip prospects as well)? Rumor has it that the team and MLB are about to settle their TV rights dispute—netting Big Blue about $6 billion. This extra scratch...

Nate Freiman delivers sweep for Oakland Athletics against Yankees Mariano Rivera

In an amazing game with tons of twists and turns, the tallest player in major league baseball delivered the death blow to the oldest player in major league baseball.  The Oakland Athletics 6’8″ 1B Nate Freiman delivered the deciding bases loaded single on (wait for it) a broken bat against 43-year-old Mariano Rivera to walk off the Athletics 3-2.  The Athletics swept the Yankees...

As part of his farewell tour, Mariano Rivera has been meeting team employees in each stadium he visits this year. On Wednesday, he delivered pizza to a longtime Oakland office services coordinator Julie Vasconcellos. Mariano delivers — pizza — in clutch

In addition to being the most productive -- and most feared -- closer in the history of baseball, Yankees ninth-inning man Mariano Rivera has always been one of the game's class acts. So it's no surprise that he's going out with grace in his final season in the bigs. As the 43-year-old embarks on his farewell tour in his final season in pinstripes, Rivera is making a...

Billy Butler upset with Robinson Cano over Home Run Derby diss

For the second year in a row, there is tension between Robinson Cano and Billy Butler over the Home Run Derby. Cano was named captain of the AL Home Run Derby squad last year and upset Kansas City Royals fans by leaving Butler, the Royals’ top hitter, off the team. The All-Star Game was being [...]

David Wright and the Home Run Derby Curse

Last night, David Wright and Robinson Cano were named the captains for the home run derby at Citi Field in July. Under the new format, this means this means that both Cano and Wright will be participating in the derby along with picking three other participants from their league for the derby. Many times, when players participate in the derby, they change their swings in order to...

Mike at River Avenue Blues has finally had it with this team...

...and if you read him often enough to know how level headed he is, it reads like a murder indictment:The Yankees didn’t just lose Thursday afternoon/night’s 18-inning marathon with the Athletics because they couldn’t buy a hit after the first inning. They also lost because they half-assed their way through an offseason in which they deemed it acceptable to downgrade all over...

Trot Times for June 13, 2013

If you didn't see it yesterday, you must check out this video of Cuban superstar Alfredo Despaigne admiring his home run. It takes him 8.5 seconds before he even starts running! Now on to the (disappointing in comparison) trots! Home Run of the Day: Robinson Cano, New York Yankees - 20.91 seconds [video] There aren't a lot of home runs to choose from with only 11...

Meet the hottest team in baseball

OK, maybe it's not the best time to sing hosannas about the Oakland Athletics' offense, not when they needed two broken-bat singles off Mariano Rivera on Thursday to beat the Yankees in 18 innings, 3-2. Starting pitching is the reason I picked the A's to win the AL West, and the primary reason the team has won 21 of its last 26 games entering its weekend series against...

Mariners-Athletics Preview

A big reason for the Oakland Athletics' month-long success has been their exceptional play at home. Coming off a marathon victory, the A's look to extend their home winning streak to 12 games Friday night against the Seattle Mariners. Nate Freiman singled home the winning run off Mariano Rivera in the 18th inning to help Oakland (41-27) complete a three-game home sweep...
