Boston Red Sox 7 — New York Yankees 4   Kuroda slightly injured in second game of the regular season in a 7-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox.   Hiroki Kuroda got his first start of the season and it was far from what he wanted. Three singles produced one run to give the Red Sox the early lead in the first inning. The second inning would end up going worse for the veteran right-hander. To start the second inning, a line drive single into center field would be deflected off of the pitching hand of Kuroda, which would be a part of his exit in tonight’s game. The 38-year-old Kuroda would hit a batter and walk a batter to load the bases. The next batter he faced would be hit by a pitch, bringing in a run for the Red Sox and prompting manager Joe Girardi to remove him from the game due to injury. After just 1.1 innings, Kuroda gave up two runs on four hits with a walk, a strikeout, and two hit batters. Cody Eppley would end the second inning and was able to get through 1.1 innings of his own. After three singles brought in two runs and a double, Eppley would have long reliever Adam Warren take over. Warren would give up a single in the inning for two more runs, charged to Eppley before ending the inning. In 1.1 innings of emergency relief in replacement of Kuroda; Cody Eppley gave up four runs on four hits. Adam Warren was the pitching star of today’s game with 5.1 innings of work to save the bullpen from being overworked through unexpected adversity. The only run Warren gave up came on a groundout in the sixth inning. In Warren’s relief appearance, he gave up one run on five hits with four strikeouts and just one walk. Despite an expected need to score through other means, the long ball was the go-to method of scoring for the Yankees tonight. A pair of new Yankees provided the pop and Travis Hafner put the Yankees on the board first. In the fourth inning, Travis Hafner hit a solo home run into the bullpen in right center for his first home run of the regular season. Outfielder Vernon Wells hit his first home run of the regular season, a three-run home run in the eighth inning off of former Yankee Alfredo Aceves. Kevin Youkilis managed to have a two hit night and Eduardo Nunez got two hits in tonight’s game with a walk and a stolen base.   Win – Clay Buchholz (1-0) Loss – Hiroki Kuroda (0-1) Save – Joel Hanrahan (1)   Notables Red Sox *Jacoby Ellsbury – 1 for 4, R, 2 RBI (4) *Jarrod Saltalamacchia – 2 for 5, R, RBI (1) Yankees *Vernon Wells – 3 for 4, R, 3-Run Home Run (1) in the 8th, 3 RBI (3) *Travis Hafner – 1 for 4, R, Solo Home Run (1) in the 4th, RBI (1)   Current Yankees Record: 0-2 (Streak – L2)   Get your Yankees Tickets from our friends at TiqIQ.
