Following their season-high fifth straight loss, the last-place Phillies were dealt another blow: Gold Glove-worthy rookie second baseman Freddy Galvis was headed to the 15-day disabled list with a lower back injury.

Galvis, who has started 44 of the Phillies' 58 games this season in place of injured All-Star Chase Utley, exited Wednesday's game in the middle of his at-bat in the fifth inning. He appeared to hurt his back while running out a foul ball.

"It's another one of our guys going down?" manager Charlie Manuel said. "What more can I say?"

When the players who are playing for injured players become victims to injuries, you know the baseball gods aren't playing very nicely with your team. When Galvis is placed on the DL on Thursday, the Phils will have nine players on the disabled list, including a former MVP (Ryan Howard), a two-time Cy Young Award winner (Roy Halladay) and two other former All-Stars (Chase Utley and Jose Contreras).

After winning five of seven games on their most recent road trip through St. Louis and New York, the Phils returned home only to lose five of six to the Marlins and Dodgers. The Phillies are 12-18 at Citizens Bank Park this season.

"It didn't matter who was coming in, we needed to have a good homestand," Manuel said "And, you know, right now we're not getting it done."

"Especially being a visitor over the years and coming in here and knowing what it's like to play here," Ty Wigginton said. "As home players, you want home to be your stomping ground and people to fear coming here. Unless we start playing better, they're not going to."

Another injury and another loss at home has sent the Phillies to what is arguably their lowest point of the season. They are six games back of the first-place Washington Nationals, and they've been in last place for all but one day since May 5.

"I feel like what's going on wrong, sooner or later it's going to be like the stock market and bottom out somewhere," Manuel said. "We'll start working from there. Hopefully that was tonight."
